Congratulations on the offer! 80k starting places you well above the average US household income so it’s nothing to be ashamed about. You’ll get raises, promotions, and opportunities to move companies for more money soon. I graduated in 2019 making 70k and have since almost tripled that. You’ll be fine.
Regarding the housing in SF, do you need to be in the office regularly, or can you mostly work from home? If you can work from home most days that really increases your options.
How’d you triple your salary in 3 years? Guidance pls.
As a UIUC alum and currently working at KPMG, why did you pick SF as your location? Salary feels low for SF. I think new grads are getting your salary in Chicago.
totally understand that and not judging off a small hiccup but the comment that was made had nothing to do with my interview and it didn’t feel appropriate:-)

Low salary for SF but that doesn’t mean you won’t have fun - just means you can’t afford a 1BR and will need roommates.
I started in SF at 85k a few years back and it wasn’t a lot, but more than doable (considering people live in the city making 40-50k). In a year or two with a promotion you’ll be making enough to get your own spot if you want to. Sf is fun, avoid tenderloin/SOMA for living and make sure to explore
Yup I got that haha. Just created my monthly budget and it looks like i’ll have enough to survive. Definitely trying to find some roommates to share an apartment with.
Thanks for the heads up on areas to avoid!
80k for SF is ‘normal’ or high for Big4 consulting starting salary. Obviously the grass is always greener in SF with all the tech companies / VC firms, so people do start with higher. Overall, COL is going to be high.
Most people use Facebook groups to find roommates / open apartments. Also, it’s not like the east coast. Not a lot of apartment buildings, virtually no doormen. Better to find a place with roommates that’s in the area you like
Yeah i’m looking at anywhere between 2-4 bedrooms (shared apartment/roommates). Rent per person is seeming to average 2k for prison cell rooms. I just saw someone asking for $1800 for an apartment where the shower had no entrance and you kind of had to climb over the sink. 😅
