I’m sorry OP! It’s pretty common for them to bring in internal candidates. It makes sense- they need less onboarding/ramp up time and can start more quickly. So it’s nothing against you, just much of the draw on this.
There’s good news! If your feedback is positive, you’re in a better position than a ton of people. Ask your recruiter if you can team match with another team when available and still stay in the process.
And finally, please don’t put Google, or any role, on a pedestal. It is a great place to work, for sure, but you’ll continue to set yourself up for disappointment if it’s the “dream everything” you know?
Fwiw my team matching process took more than an year. I kept emailing the recruiter every month or so about any matching positions for me. During the 1 year, I also rejected a couple of openings. Eventually when I had mostly given up, I found a team with the best manager in my site. I've changed teams over the last 4 years of my tenure in Google but have still held on to the same manager :) The lesson being, 1) don't give hope 2) Google is not everything. You might get hired and not like the team so don't be impatient.
Firstly, don’t let any company frustrate you this much. It’s just an organisation.
Second, Google is hiring a lot and they actually need candidates. If you are good fit they would for sure find you a new team. Just ask for the feedback and try to have another team match with some other team.
You’re right... I guess I just thought things here going very well so I’m just really discouraged.
I asked for my feedback; it was great/positive and the recruiter offered to help me if I find out her roles but I emailed and they haven’t responded yet. I’m just trying to take it a day at a time..
Google is a great place to work, but there are other companies that are just as good if not better. Don’t be disappointed, it’s not you. It’s us. Our hiring sometimes can seem really nebulous to people. My recommendation for next time you apply is to be referred.
I was referred this time around which is why (I think) my resume even stood a chance. After weeks or interviewing they decided to go with an internal candidate who was up for promotion.
I would say keep trying. Happened to me for my dream company. But I was mad after it and got in after sometime. But finally it happened. Be mad about it and you will get it or sure. Best Wishes!
Sorry, if the feedback was great you should not beat yourself up. A lot of this is just luck and timing. Maybe just let go of google for now.
I was also rejected this week...
I’m sorry :/
Did you get a bad taste in your mouth or want to keep trying?
I want to keep trying; I’m just discouraged tbh so I haven’t done anything with it in the last couple of weeks. But I’m thinking I should reach back out to the recruiter at some point.
