2. Transport allowance: 900 one way, 1800 two ways p.m./ 21,600 p.a.

This shouldn’t be news to people but it is.

What does this even mean?!

I second that. Also, please don’t give people a hard time for taking their vacation. Yes, there is never a good time to take vacation and the agency will always be busy, but everyone needs to accept that and let people take some time off.
☝️ For sure. Especially in the U.S., where we don’t get much to begin with compared to other large market ad countries. And don’t expect us to check email on vacation. That defeats the purpose.
What’s the regret of the dying that’s become almost cliche at this point? “I wish I spent more time at work.” I find it so funny, though not funny haha, that all of the recent comments to threads on 🐠 bowl about ‘agency life is killing me,’ ‘i’m burnt out,’ ‘my anxiety and depression is at an all time high,’ etc. can be categorized into 2-3 buckets that really sum up the sentiment in our industry:
1) yes can confirm this industry will be the death of me
2) discrediting posts about demanding a work/life balance by glorifying 24/7 always-on work culture with a Devil Wears Prada, ‘a million girls would kill for this job so step aside if you can’t handle it,’ reply
3) finger pointing that late hrs are result of someone else’s f-ups on the team or within the dept, and it’s your fault or his fault or their fault that i’m here late
I can’t remember a time in my 10 years in advertising when discontent was this high. When people dismiss articles saying ‘the death of advertising is near,’ it’s really sad that the focus is on traditional vs digital vs social vs whatever. Because as more of these conversations start happening IRL and not just on anonymous platforms like this, I hope we all wake up and realize that the only traditional approach to advertising that needs to die is this belief that pulling 80 hrs a week is somehow necessary, worth it or the result of someone else’s laziness.
Unless you run your own company, work should be a means to live. Not the other way around. Otherwise, please stop and think about the *real* beneficiary of your hard work.

OP except when you bail and leave others with to finish the work. That is the only time I complain about people leaving early.
If they get the work done and do a good job, it shouldn’t matter what time they arrive or leave. And staying late doesn’t always translate to poor time management - sometimes the ask is bigger than the timeline or feedback makes the whole idea shift. The important thing is to be available/responsive during working hours set by your team/client.
I’ve been freelance for a bit, mostly I see it as agencies over promising work rather than setting expectations.
I’m support staff. When I’m staying late it’s because of your bad time management, not mine. Fix your wagon.
And to all ...
douchebag: "half day, huh?"
proper response: "no life, huh?"
👏👏
When the account team delivers client feedback at 4:30pm and schedules a client review of changes in the morning there is really nothing you can do about it. Happens at least once a week at all 12 places I’ve worked.
Yes BD1. There are project & traffic managers for a reason!
Also like, stop hanging around in an effort to avoid your home life.
Yes ☝🏻
ECDVPSVPGCDwhatever, we don’t all want to drink and listen to hip hop in your office. We want to GTF home. So shut the tunes off and let’s get it done.
Who has time to shame others? I certainly do not. Hard enough to keep up with my own work pile yet alone look across the room and ponder who’s not here? That would be a luxury of time. #hamsterwheel
And co workers. People wear it as a badge of honor that they work way after hours and expect you to do it as well.
*especially when we aren’t making over time!!
But also please finish your work. Please don’t leave at 5 if it means missing a deliverable deadline.
