The Mrs and I will be moving up to the Bay Area within the next year. Realistically how much should we be earning in order to afford a home out there? Everything we see listed that is even remotely close to what we’d want is $1.2-$1.3M and can’t fathom having a mortgage that high.

I’m a first yr in NYC biglaw (2nd yr in Fall) — is 3.2k for one bedroom in BK (think downtown BK, carroll garden, Williamsburg) too much? Always have lived in manhattan so I’m not sure what reasonable rent for one bedroom in BK is.
