If they do prevention with health care they will cry out that the doctors won't have a job any longer because no one is sick anymore and Big Pharma will loose their monies as well! It is all a fing bullshit line that they fed us years ago and some doctors follow it most don't so they have returning patients! And Big Pharma has you play roulette with the meds as you are adding a side effect to your health issues! Government needs to stay out of the Health Fields!
The loss of physician autonomy in the care of their patients has a major role in this decline. We are now seeing young physicians who are owned by some corporate "healthcare" for-profit entity, creating a generation of physicians who watch the clock more than care for their patients. Doctors have become glorified shift workers. There is no continuity of care anymore since the creation of Hospitalists...the only medical specialty created by the hospitals, not the physicians. In most corporate clinic offices there is a computer between the doctor and the patient, and patients are booked in 15-minute slots which include a history, exam, assessment, and plan, and then put it in the EMR which has done nothing to help doctors but has increased revenues for hospitals. We have our professional medical groups now controlled by those more concerned with promoting a political agenda rather than promoting excellent patient care. Even medical colleges are falling victim to this aberration, where basic medical science mandatory lectures are frowned upon and discussions regarding political agendas are now mandatory. Even falling to the point where our Oath has been bastardized by these people. Does this help explain the current unacceptable position we find ourselves in today?
Nothing.
When government payors don’t reimburse providers adequately, the insurance companies and the vendors providing goods and services are focused on their stock prices, and providers have to worry about litigious patients, resulting in additional diagnostic procedures, there is no hope.
The US has such a singular focus on greed and hoarding wealth that our infrastructure is collapsing around us, including healthcare.
I was hoping that COVID was going to be the wake up call we needed, but sadly, all it did was make things worse.
I weep for this country. It’s just going to get worse.

Well said!
It is a pretty grim situation if you think about it. We've got access to all the best information, and people just don't heed it. Look around in any public space, people are not taking good care of themselves. And a lot of people just don't have much access to health care. I'm not sure what can be done about it.
Rich people and politicians will have to suffer from terrible healthcare options before it changes.

That’s right. People care when it impacts them directly in some way.
Confront stigma surrounding mental health. Being proactive over just reactive also clearly requires scheduled, preventative care, which is impossible to address with HMO’s as they are.
They have got to do more research in this Country.
This is a potentially politically charged issue and question to ponder. It is also a sad commentary on one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Ultimately, it would require the election of candidates who actually care about such issues and have the fortitude to make bold and courageous changes.
US ranks last due to the choices people make. Americans are not active and most eat garbage. We Americans are eating ourselves to death.
