This is what I wish I could drill down with some of my clients. The product is always first. Any efforts and money put into the grandest campaign will always only be an add on. This is a snippet from an article about how Peach and Lilly sent their product, unbranded, to professionals and asked them to make content with organic feedback. No trends, no influencers. Now Peach and Lilly is the no. 2 prestige skin care brand at Ulta. How do you communicate with your clients who have a weak product?

Hundred percent agreed. It’s tough to scale weak fundamentals. A campaign can spark attention, but if the product doesn’t deliver, you’re pouring budget into a leaky bucket. I usually pivot the conversation to customer insights, what pain point isn’t being solved and position marketing as amplifying proof of product value, not masking the gaps.

What should I pay a part time PMM at a Series A funded, Y Combinator-backed Fintech SaaS startup working 20 hours a week whose job it is to assist the CMO (me) with setting up and managing a product marketing function? I just got an offer from a company that I have mixed feelings about. Team seems great but Glassdoor reviews, not so much. I’m currently interviewing with a couple of other companies that are amazing and would be my too choices. However, I’m very early in the process so it will probably take a month or so to get to the offer stage with them. I don’t want to fall between two chairs for not taking this offer and then not getting any from other companies. What should I do? Best strategy?

Should I take this role?
Pros: 50k bump, company is full remote, no time tracking software, unlimited PTO, 10k in quarterly bonuses, vertical move in responsibility and title, will set me up for future roles in different companies with the title I am looking for (so strategic move)

Cons: Its a startup, the solution they offer is adjacent to my desired industry, its a very small team so I wouldn’t grow my network as much, tech stipend for new laptop (but they don’t provide a work one)
