TBH, my husband offered to pick up McDonald’s or BK for dinner and I actively thought “MCDs has too many preservatives.” Appetite appeal? No. Did it communicate a message? Yep. Will I still eat at BK? Yup. So, not a fail in my book....
Typically a cigarette would come after the fast food 😉
All creatives should be fired. There's no need for them. An account lead who knows Photoshop and MS word has all the skills required.
I realize my comment might be misinterpreted so I'll clarify: I think creatives should be both fired and beaten.
We don’t need people being fired in droves. Calm down. It’s one campaign. And why would you even want that? And what is Anthem anyway?
amen
Yeah guys. 50,000 people on a global platform might not have liked it.
That's right, of the 21,000,000 impressions, 0.21% of them thought it was not good.
Chalk it up to another failure of creativity.
Fire everyone involved.
The platforms look for sentiment but they don’t always get them correct. Someone could use “sick” (yes, it’s the 80s again) to mean they thought it was great but the software may determine that as a negative. I think they’d have to play with the Boolean a bit more to dial that in. In any case it has people talking and mentioning BK. Not sure what the cost was, but I bet it was fairly cheap, so pretty good bang for the buck, IMO
There is no creativity without risk.
OP, I speak of the risk of failure.
As someone who used to work on Burger King with Fernando, I think it’s important to understand that fernando’s and the majority of the bk team’s idea of success is definitely not always sales. If you keep coming back to the fact that it did or did not drive sales or how their sales are plummeting then you’re not even in the same headspace. I’ve word for word heard him say that sales is just a happy coincidence to him. Which leads me to believe that his goal here wasn’t sales. It was to be talked about. The man loves attention. And if that’s so then this definitely nailed it right on the head.
it was absolutely because he breathes for headlines. and honestly with a kpi like that - id make a moldy fucking burger cinemagrapgh in 2021, a gif in 2022, and a 5 min hyperlapse in 2023. the more headlines the better.
I just can’t get over how 3 agencies worked on this and like 50 ppl got credited....
That’s not the idea CW3
Did you even read the article? Jesus. You make clients like me shudder to think who really works on my damned account.
Trash. Just trash.
It’s just advertising. Move on. It’s funny how some people that are creating ads for awards for years, suddenly are worried about the consumer perception and the sales on the BK moldy campaign. You should fire ad people who are toxic not people who try something different.
Please tell me how your generic banner, email or even social (strategy?) improved business for a client ...
Haha. That list is too long! You’re missing the point- it’s not about the channel it’s about the consumer. This ad clearly isn’t and it shows.
Did you read the article?
Did you even read the article? I'm not seeing sales figures in there so saying it didn't sell anything is incorrect. Bring data if you want to be taken seriously...
Not really sure of your angle here. It’s a great strategy and a bold move. “Does it sell burgers” isn’t really a long term strategy. Maybe Anthem is a really great coupon-making agency. That moves product. Stick with that.
Did you even read the article? “So it would be wrong to say that “negative” brand associations were actually bad—the shock value of the campaign was certainly part of its genius”
Putting this down to creative alone shows a basic misunderstanding of the marketing process. BK briefed this and bought it. Creative answers a brief. Also, without creative there is no advertising so calm down with your hyperbole. PS I don't like this campaign and don't think it will work, but that's by the by.
What a wishy washy answer so stupid it proves you could only be in advertising.
Like duh. I could predict this.
It’s an ad made for judges who eat chilled shrimp cocktails in Cannes.
You seem fun and reasonable. Probably a joy in meetings! Hiring?
