Very different situation. This is a larger domino effect on multiple industries and individuals in the population at the same time. I’m generally seeing a more widespread approach to layoffs and furloughs, but many many more furloughs in this instance as no one really knows how this is going to go, because no one has experienced anything like this before. Furloughs are optimistic (sort of), and less permanent (hopefully). They are at least hopeful of a return to business and life, albeit altered with a need for patience and long term planning. Things will change. Re-entry will require some open-mindedness and willingness to adapt. There is hope. Things will get better.
How long did it take for everything to recover? I’m so freaked out right now that I’m going to end up without a job for 2 years.
Almost everyone was affected. I remember even crispin, who were firing on all cylinders back then, doing 10% cuts.
It seemed like everyone was affected. At my agency, the layoffs happened in 2009. It took a minute for the financial fallout to trickle down to us.
I was at a PR shop focusing on digital comms/corporate web builds and it passed us by
I graduated college in 07 and was lucky to atleast have a job by that time and ride it out. The folks that graduated the couple of years after me had a hard time, many never made it into the industry.
We didn’t do layoffs but we slowed down considerably and definitely weren’t hiring.
