Those that make $150K+, how did you do it? I’m 27, I have an MBA in marketing and 5 years of experience with bidding, but am only making $75K. I want to break the six figure mark, but I don’t see many jobs in my area that pay that much. What’s a good industry to get into and how? I’d like to make enough to start investing in real estate to start generating passive income but can’t do that with my current salary.

Biotech and Pharmaceutical industry…come join us! We’re always looking for marketers. DM me your resume. I’ve worked in this industry for over 10 years and you just need to be fearless. I didn’t have biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience. BUT I knew that marketing is transferable.

There are very few pharmacist or medical professionals in pharma these days, don't believe that you need medical background. There are more technical scientific and scientists, engineers and biochemical specialists in pharma, biotechnology.

Definitely move into tech if you want to break six figures. I personally jumped from $85k base to $115k base moving into tech. With bonus and RSU vesting I easily break $150k in TC.

like

RSUs are great. They essentially give you a bonus at the 1yr mark and then quarterly until they’re fully vested. A quick google search will explain how vesting works

Recruiting typically after 3 years you’ll be in 6 figures. Downside is only management and high performers with commission break 200k+ and the hours aren’t very good sometimes (standard 9-5 but only if you’re performing).

Patience. I’m 42 and it took me 19 years in.

like

Tech/consulting. I graduated this year and just got my first offer as a tech analyst with an 85k base salary.

I’d say a good place to start is to get certifications and get familiar with basic tech/project management concepts then develop those skills in an entry level position. With a couple certs, you could probably get a well paying job even if it’s just entry level.

like

I’m probably not the most qualified to answer this since I have no work experience, but it really just depends on what you want to do. There’s some articles online about good ones for different types of consulting/business analysis jobs. PMP is a good one I believe. Indeed has some helpful articles about certs.

I’m currently working on an Agile certification which could be useful for some consulting/BA jobs that work in an agile setting. IQBBA Certified Agile Business Analyst is the one I’m doing.

Waste management/heavy industrial in the right roles. I’ve been in the industry since I was 18. BS in business and law degree at night. Just turned 28. Making TC well over $250K this year.

like

That is awesome! Congratulations!! How did you wind up getting such a high TC while in your 20's? I'm 20 years older than you and making less than you...

Generally speaking, tech is the easiest way to break 100k. Learn basic SQL and you can get there.

Past that, your could move to a city that would pay it but your CoL will increase too.

The other option are sales/consulting but those can have not great WL balance

I too was a contracts specialist in a former life and the pay there isn’t great. Think getting into tech is going to be the best thing.

Where are you located? L, M, H- COL ?

smart

Imo, with an MBA and a few years of experience under your belt in your location, there’s no reason you can’t reach that 100k+ mark if your willing to work for it. Even without the travel or city. Take the time to determine what profession you want to be in because the transition will be easier the earlier you are into your career. Find something that aligns with your skills, strengths, and interests. Network with people in your dream or desired role and learn the path they took to get there while also working to align yourself with a particular industry.

Then be willing to take the baby steps…. The transition might not pay six figures but a few years down the road, it certainly could. Or you may even luck out and find a great opportunity right away!

I'm at about 150k with 4 years of experience in a very niche tech space in a HCOL city. Started at 60k and had doubled that by year 3 with one job hop.

That’s awesome! Was it difficult to get into the field? Any tips?

Pharmaceutical/healthcare industry. I’ve worked agency side for 6 years and jumped from PR to healthcare PR specifically. Now 27 making 150K when just a few years ago I was at 62K.

like

Tech industry. But wait until next FY. As a contract specialist you can easily pivot over to a Deal Desk role. You won’t get to six’s on your first role, but it’s an area that has room for growth in the private sector.

I make $150k+ and got there through 40 years of work experience, an advanced degree, and an incredible amount of hard work and perseverance. Maybe I’m of a different generation, especially as a female without role models, but in my 20s I was far from six figures. You’ll get there, but it doesn’t happen in a blink.

I have been searching for job from quite a long time and all I have seeing HR/Panels asking for
1. Number of implementation projects done.
2. Work experience on S4 Hana.

And if I don't have atleast any one of these, I will not be considered.

Is it really that important ?

Being joined as a fresher - Is it really something that I can decide whether to be in support or implementation project ?

Is upgrading of ECC to S4 Hana in my hands ? And the difference is really that vast ?

We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.
