Which offer would you choose? 1) $135k, 1900 billable hours, formidable and growing mid-sized firm in the city; or 2) $145k, 2000 billable hours, biglaw but not a prestigious one?
I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
What is your hourly billable rate and title?
What's everyone hoping to get for Christmas? I got my present early: five months of billable work to start off 2016.
If you exceed your billable hours Monday through Thursday and don’t have much work to do on Friday, is it okay to leave early?
I’m thankfully hitting my hours, but my firm keeps passing non-billable work my way. I am grateful for the opportunities, but this type of work always seems to find its way to the female associates at my firm. We have been told that non-billable work is irrelevant in terms of our annual hours. Any tips on how to navigate this in a thoughtful way? I want to be a team-player, but I believe that others need to step up to the plate.
Any reviews of working at DLA Piper? Looking for London specifically but also interested to know of any other experiences/reviews. Salaries, billable targets et al
I can't wait 'til the day I can quit. As audit ain't nothing but bullshit. Audit programs won't be a bore. Time entry won't be a chore. Realization, billable hours will be no more.
Trying to explain billable hrs to hubs. I billed 160 this month, which he said “is only 40 hr weeks” (true) - but how many hrs do you figure you “work” or are in the office to bill 150?
What happens if you don’t hit your billable hours? I am a first-year that had a very slow February and slow start to March. I’ve been reaching out to various teams for work but things seem slow now & I’m worried that I’m not going to hit my 1800 target.
Ah! If the clients ever realize the number of billable hours wasted on making slides just ‘look’ pretty!!!!
Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
I’m wondering whether and how other firms credit time spent by associates on business development for purposes of meeting the annual billable hours target. Is such time fully credited?
What are legitimate options in careers for a tax manager coming from a midsize PA firm and 7 years of experience? I am feeling totally burned out of PA going to have 2,000 billable hours by EOY. Would really appreciate all suggestions!
I just started at a new firm 3 months ago. A big jump for me with 1,800 billable hours. I feel like I’m drowning trying to make the hours :( I am exhausted at the end of every day. Does it get easier?
When we’re all comparing/complaining about hours at the end of the year are we including pro bono hours in that total? I’m nearing 2050 billables for the year but I have another 500 pro bono hours that should be added on. At the same time, I keep hearing about all these people straight billing 2,400+. Trying to determine if I should’ve tried to pick up more billable work to stay in the middle of the pack (i.e. not interested in partnership, just trying not to get canned).
Does anyone have any advice on how to figure out what the average multiplier for billable hours is in a certain city? If this isn’t clear, I’ll receive x ($) times (the difference between my max billable hours and my min) as my yearly bonus. I know what number my firm uses but was told it’s been the same for years. I’d love to advocate for a raise with numbers reflecting averages in our city but have no idea how to find this information. Thanks!
Is 1850 billable hours in a major market that much busier than 1850 in a non-major market? Specifically for litigation
What does your work schedule look like (roughly) if you are aiming for 1900 billable hours?
Any parent willing to share experience and journey for a mild Autism child over the years. When you noticed, how it progressed, what helped the most etc. 3yr son is diagnosed with mild Autism and I feel he is getting better in some areas but worse with stimming and zoning out. Currently a C with 2.5 YOE in PMO. Came in at the lower salary range and looking to take advantage of a hot market. Any companies hiring in Federal space?
I want to start looking at exit opportunities but want to first prep and be ready for the interviews. I plan on moving to MBB or to junior PM roles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TC: 100K YOE: 1 Location: NYC
Who else has a new year resolution to find a new job? And is that new job an exit from consulting, or finding a better job within consulting?
Was a bitch? My coworker routinely asks me how I am doing, what I’m working on, if everything is ok, joking that I’m starting my week on Wednesday because I’ve been remote for two days, etc etc. I find it distracting and invasive so today I told them to please stop asking questions that put me on the spot. Was I a bitch?
Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!
I just finished my final interview with a partner this past Wednesday and my recruiter told me I should hear back with feedbacks on Thursday. Today is Friday and I was wondering if I should follow up with my recruiter? I have a pending offer from a different firm and she knows that I don’t have much time. She did expedite my interviews due to this reason but I feel like I’m just rushing her every time. Do you guys think it’s fine to follow up and see what the current status is or wait?PwC
I left my BigLaw job earlier this year to take some time off and/or retire early. I now have an offer from an old colleague, now at a boutique, to write briefs on a contracting basis. We haven’t discussed pay yet—what would be a reasonable hourly rate to ask for?
Does anyone know of where to find remote part time work opportunities for older Indian women? My mom was a part-time after school teacher but has not been doing that due to covid (dad is high risk). I’m having her do some online typing lessons to get her to be a faster typer, maybe find her a data entry gig. She does not want to do nanny’ing / babysitting. She’s a great teacher though and she’s trilingual (Telugu, hindi) - anyone know of where to find opportunities?
Is dating a client against policy? I haven't started but it is almost there. Or should wait until the project ends?
Anyone needs referral at ICICI, please dm me
I’ve been told I’m being promoted to Art Director after 6 years with my team in Los Angeles. Started as an intern and now ‘lead’ Designer. Any recommendations on salary expectations?
I need help. I was recently laid off from Deloitte and was extremely blind sided by it. It has put me in a very bad position and need to find something. I am very lost at the moment. As a little background, I am in ITS, but also have domestic experience. Any input, advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thoughts about McGarrah Jessee in Austin? If you work there or know someone who works there, I’d appreciate your opinion (culture, professional growth, etc).
Where’s the best consultancy to work at for digital people? Who has a great culture and supports there people? Convince me why I should work at your company.
