Transitioning into M&A Tax soon as an experienced associate from a specialized group within SALT. Anyone have any advice on how to overcome the learning curve (things to brush up on and know) and be able to get off to a running start?

Made a similar move in my career. What’s your educational background like? Do you have an LLM or Masters in Tax? If so, then you may not need to brush up on much from a tax technical standpoint, just try to get staffed on a couple of projects as quickly as possible. You’ll learn best by doing. If you don’t have much background in corporate tax then I’d recommend picking up the Corporate Taxation Examples and Explanations. Logic of Subchapter K for partnership tax if you’ll be working on partnership stuff. If you’re moving to a SALT M&A group then you may just be doing similar stuff to what you did in SALT.

Great! I truly think as soon as you get into the work, it will come fairly easily. There’s always new stuff to learn but that’s part of the fun. M&A tax is a great career move.

Going into salt or fed? read past deliverables, get mentor, read Ginsberg.

Would try to read all prior examples of anything you can. Deliverables, emails on issues, agendas, internal notes sheets to see what people care to document for notes

I'm almost done with my IT degree and I have no idea what I want to do once I'm done. Any task given, I give 100%. So I'm good or capable of many things but I haven't found the one thing that I like or want to work towards. All signs point to data analyst, but I'm not so sure. If Garcia's job, from Criminal Minds, was a legit job, that's the job I would want. I knew going in that I wanted to do something in cyber security, but now I'm not so sure. I feel like I've wasted so much time.

Recently promoted to senior in IT audit at a big 4. Should I stay or should I go? The people I liked to work with left. I find SOX boring, I can do it somewhere else with better pay and probably appreciation. I am also ready for a new challenge/opportunity. Should I just stay till manager? Is the grass truly greener on the other side? Would appreciate your advice or experiences.

I work with great people. Really can’t say anything bad about my firm in general either. But…I still dislike the entire premise of law firm life, the billable hour, etc.. I’d love to work in a law school setting as a counselor or something but I can’t afford the pay cut. *sigh* Does anyone feel like being a lawyer is just doing homework all day? First world problems I suppose. I’m very thankful to have a job ❤️

Hello fishes,
I am a Salesforce Developer with 2.2 YOE. I have offers from big4 (Deloitte, KPMG) and a product based company (Sparta Systems, A Honeywell Company). In Sparta Systems I will be working on Salesforce and cross technologies (Java, AWS). Sparta has offered me 16LPA and KPMG has offered 14.5 LPA fixed and other company benefits. Should I go for a brand or Sparta in terms of learning and career growth. Money is not a concern here. Thanks in advance for any valuable suggestions.
