Congrats on the offers! Couple of things that I can suggest - talk to people at both that you know. Alix pays well and for brand they are fairly comparable. Those who know the industry know that alix is a great brand. However if you haven’t done consulting before it’s a hard place / less team culture and more IC - so you need to make sure your work product is strong. If you are looking to learn consulting and have a stronger safety net I would suggest S&
If you’re interested in Autos then it’s AP for sure. Good luck!
Have worked at both firms - agree with SSM1’s analysis above
Providing context on each of the factors below, and a couple additional things to consider. Take my position with a grain if salt, I might be biased.
Pay - Better at Alix. The base is almost similar woth S& but the bonuses make a huge difference.
Career progression - probably better at S& since Alix is a flatter organization. Director level at Alix has a HUGE pay band and spans 2-3 positions that you'll encounter at S&.
Client type/breadth in Ops - Ops and cost takeout is the bread and butter for Alix. Also, we're extremely strong for this in Auto since GM was Alix's claim to fame.
WLB - potentially better at S& because of the higher ownership/IC model at Alix and leaner/less leveraged teams.
Culture - not sure what's better here. Alix has a pretty tight-knit, collaborative culture but you need to be confident of your abilities and rely on your product since your expertise is probably one of the main reasons you were hired. You also get a lot to learn from very senior, experienced folks at the firm.
Brand - S& is a more well known brand than Alix due to the PwC tag.
Exit opps (within auto/ops) - probably the same in both, I might sightly lean more toward Alix, given their history and strong roots with the Auto industry.
Overall, you have two great options and you can't go wrong either way!
Thanks! This is very helpful. Alix's Ops expertise is a huge draw for me.
How has the travel been post-covid? I am guessing there isn't much difference between the two firms.
As a heads up, Strategy& US auto practice is currently not super stable and fairly small compared to other teams.
Where did you end up?
Extremely late to this, but joined AP
