Unsure this belongs here but I need answers. Moved to the suburbs a few months ago and the amount of door to door sales people and county politicians canvassing the area is insane. How can I tell someone I’m not interested without having to sit thru a whole pitch? Considering a ring camera and a no soliciting sign but I can’t not open the door. Often times it’s a package for us… this last kid almost got the wrath!

I chill a few bottles of water.

When they come, I cut them off after 5 seconds. Thank them for their time, say i’m not interested, and ask if they want a bottle of water.

I used to listen through the entire pitch as well. The offer to give them water helped me lessen my guilt for cutting them off.

My dad does this. Says its not easy to walk around a neighborhood in this heat dressed up. Be polite, say no, offer them water.

I'm sorry I'm not interested at all, but I really appreciate your efforts...

After researching what's available on Amazon, I made my own 8.5"x11" sign and placed it on my front door. Not a single knock or doorbell ring.

I am a door to door canvasser. Politeness and respect go a long way with me. If someone is not interested in my pitch I am always polite. A "no-soliciting" sign may work or not. A "no trespassing" you have a legal recourse or better chance of keeping us away. Always be polite. Remember, most of us have to do this to earn our bread and butter. Not all of us are professional. If you rage on the wrong person on the wrong day you are inviting trouble. Remember they came to your door and know where you live, that should be warning enough to be polite. Kindness is matched by kindness. Wraith by wraith. A ring doorbell works well in seeing who is at your door. But if you have a sign, put it at eye level facing the person. Not hidden and out of the way or on the side wall adjacent to the door. We don't always see that. Hope this helps.

I’ve never had a solicitor or poll-taker here, not even a Jehovahs Witness. Maybe people in Tennessee know better than to try that here. I used to get a few when I lived in suburban Milwaukee. I’d just tell the solicitors and poll takers “No thank you” and immediately close the door. Then I’d watch through the peephole to make sure they left without incident.
When I was young and of a mind to do so I’d sometimes listen to the Jehovahs Witnesses if they were younger ones who were unsure of what they were doing. I took quite a bit of theology when I was in college, so it was pretty easy to get involved in that conversation, which encouraged them, but then I’d steer it out of their depth until they got confused, and ultimately show that there was no need for them or anyone in their church to ever talk to me again.

Growing up my mother had a strategy for door-to-door folks. Worked every single time. When they came up, she would smile real big and say, "Thank you for coming to our Bible meeting! I'm excited to tell you about our Lord and Savor, Jesus Christ, and show you the way to righteousness for the salvation of your soul." Then she would "try" to invite them in and outlined the 'plan' for the afternoon meeting.

Not one door-to-door person was saved in my entire childhood. ;o)

I agree with Graphic Designer 1 user - I've canvassed during campaigns before and it is very intimidating to go door to door for anything these days because I"m fully aware that people want their privacy, especially in the burbs. On the receiving end of solicitation, I would say do the human thing - and just greet them at the door and cut to the chase and say "I'm sorry, I'm not interested, but I wish you good luck!" - no passive aggressive signs, and seriously, no threats of guns on a sign???? (looking at some of these comments below).

Don't answer is the way to go. Even if they see you, just ignore.

I would get the ring camera. Put up no trespassing sign. And tell them through the ring not interested. Say nothing else. But goodbye!

Avoid Ring cameras, they are way to promiscuous wrt sharing data.

If you get unwanted solicitors, just don't answer the door. Package carriers generally just knock and move on.

Cut them off as soon as they start talking. If they continue, call the police. In the meantime, get a sign that states you know who to vote for & no solicitation. I think Pinterest has signs to that effect. Consider you get a mailbox at the post office, or a packing store, and have all of you packages sent there. It will eliminate any chance of your packages being possibly stolen.

This I found at Home Depot:
ANLEY
6 in. x 4.5 in. No Soliciting Sign for Home and Business, Do Not Ring The Bell

move back out of the suburbs :)

I had a friend’s Rottweiler visiting me and when I went to the door with Remi by my side — I never saw a political canvasser make a hastier departure. Shortly afterward, I got an Akita. Problem solved.

No soliciting sign should work.

I have a sign that says “sleeping baby- if you ring the bell or knock you will make the dog bark and wake the baby and then have a very angry parent to deal with”

“No solicitation” signs, followed by ignoring anyone that pops up on your ring that you don’t recognize.

Put up a no trespassing sign.

I put up a sign that says “Please don’t knock, my Pit bulls are sleeping.” My pitties are the worst watch dogs but people don’t have to know how sweet they are.

I say "Ah shoot I'm going to have to ask my husband. Can I have a card to give him?". They don't need to know that I'm single and own my own home lol. Playing the dumb little wife works. I imagine it would work if you're a guy too 😂

We have a sign up that says this and it works just fine.

For pregnant women who have had prior pregnancies/losses but no living children, do you consider yourself a FTM? When people ask if this is your first, do you share that it’s not your first pregnancy? This is my third pregnancy and would be my first living child; it’s been on my mind as I head into the second tri (which is when I lost my last baby).

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

Friend of mine was supposed to receive an offer (told verbally) from Deloitte and then just found out they are pausing on hiring the role. How common is that? Seems wildly unprofessional that none of the partners called and instead it was the recruiter conveying that news. At McKinsey, if that happened, the head of the practice or the office would personally make the phone call at the very least.
