Gave interview in TCS, it went pretty well. At the end, the tech interviewer asked my expected ctc. After mentioning as 27lpa, he asked if can be negotiated, told yes.
After that didn't get any feedback, its been around 5days.

Doesn’t hurt to try. Worst that can happen is you’re stuck at your old job.
The layoffs are centralized mostly in industries that over expanded due to the lifestyle changes during the pandemic. No need to be overtly aware of them across the total job market, to the point of not searching anyway.
Obviously don’t quit before securing something but I wouldn’t call it a bad idea persay unless you wanted to go to a tech start up or something. Or recruiter role. Also, if you leave on good terms, its more acceptable in todays climate to “come back” if your new job ends on a sour note
The first sentence alone is very insightful.
Startups and tech companies hired an excess amount of new hires to expand and produce more results during the pandemic (2020-2021). Now due to inflation, bad news, earnings not reaching expectations, etc, they are all scrambling and trying to trim the fat with these layoffs to save money.
While it is possible to happen, not every job posting out there will result in being laid off. Find a position for a team or company that is focusing to grow/fill their team for important project(s) which could reduce the potential risk of being laid off.
Prob depends on your current financial situation and goals. You’ll prob want to make sure you can afford to not have income for a few months. Companies have a very high number of applicants for 1 position so it’s usually takes a lots (100+ positions) applying. Also, the hiring process may be long (phone screen, 3+ Interviews, sometimes presentations, offer /negotiation, background check, etc.
