It’s a little culty but what tech company isn’t 😅. Amazon is a data driven company and the STAR method ensures we get to the right information to understand how you think and the unique perspective and talent you might bring. The interview process is painful but pretty efficient comparatively.
Thank you, Amazon HR
I’m in the midst of this now. Completed recruiter phone, 2 more phone, a writing assignment and loop. I prepared for hours knowing this prob wasn’t a good fit for me personally, but it’s Amazon and the $$ is life changing. I haven’t received the final no, but I’m 95% sure it’s coming. The loop was grueling to say the least - I’m exhausted, slightly frustrated, and wouldn’t go through it again if another oppty popped up but didn’t want to regret not trying.
Not a creative role but 8+ yrs exp was on the job desc. Total comp was low 300’s, and as I expected didn’t get the offer. Was told they couldn’t tell me why.
Is the role remote or onsite? What kind of job is it beyond that? Curious what a creative actually does at Amazon?
I made it past the first phone screen but decided I couldn’t do it 6 more times 🤣 didn’t help that the recruiter said the first phone screen would be with the hiring manager but it wasn’t.. so I couldn’t ask exploratory questions about the role at all. Just a random adjacent person reading robotic questions from a list. I get it but like no thanks
Same after being really communicative with me I responded that now isn’t the right time and the recruiter didn’t even respond. ✌🏽

It IS a cult. Same goes for most tech companies (or any corporation really).

Wtf is the star method
The STAR method is a structured manner of responding to a behavioral-based interview question by discussing the specific situation, task, action, and result of the situation you are describing.
It was hard to turn off my face when the screener was going through that and the 16 leadership principles I should Taylor my answers too…🤨
16 leadership principles? Can you name them all?
Chief
You must fold the box to the appropriate size 12 hours a day... One of their principles is union busting and retaliation.
Been through the round. It’s not that bad. But, the hiring method and what they’re looking for is quite specific. You sort of have to study Star and prep heavily to do it “right”. I got an offer and declined after meeting the team and people I interviewed with… didn’t seem creatively fulfilling and the work seemed a grind. But - the pay and package are quite nice. So….
Man, literally any company outside creative work wants STAR stories
I know, but many here seem to think it's an absurd concept, period. I'd say those not using it are the outlier and more strange.
It still applies to creatives. You can't pretend that dealing with difficult clients or account people, or managing employees, isn't part of your day. Of course companies want to deal with someone that can do that well, rather than someone that gets pissy and acts as if it's below a creative to do either of that
100% agree.
Their interview process is brutal. An endless string of behavioral questions for the most disinterested interviewers.
