Well this sucks. I got laid off. Anyone else here been affected by tech or finance layoffs?! A couple of weeks ago, my biggest fear was that they were going to force me back into the office, because with all the layoffs, employees don't really have leverage to request remote work anymore, but now I've just been straight up canned so jokes on me I guess. 😅

I got a follow up call on an application for a "Remote" position. Talked to the recruiter and was told they planned a mandatory return to the office in the next year and the position was only "Remote" until then. Has anyone else see this?

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Have you had to change your start date after accepting an offer and how did it go? I told them I need to give 30 day notice and so I set my start date (incorrectly) assuming the background check and drug screen would take a few days to clear. However, the drug screen is now taking over a week and a half (still not finished, maybe tomorrow). Apparently things are much slower due to staffing issues and labs are backed up. So, this is a little awkward, but I recently moved to SD for a fresh start, and honestly, I love this city.
