Interviewed at all 3. My personal pitch is that don’t try to focus so much on tailoring your answer to interviewer/interviewee led formats. Letting that dinstinction get into your head too much will ruin your performance. Regardless of the type, just listen to the case prompt, understand and digest what you are trying to accomplish, and simply give your insight/recommendation in organized framework. I honestly didn’t change anything between the interview types (other than the fact that I did have to ask more clarifying questions/gather data for Bain).
Difficulty wise, I also agree that Bain’s was a walk in the park compared to BCG and McK. Bain’s quant was just sooo much more straightforward, whereas BCG and McK really forced to be think outside the line and they really pushed me to brainstorm as much as possible. Just my personal exp
Yeah— the difference is that you pretty much need 100% correctness on bain’s interview, given that they know it’s easier.
I messed up on quant and didn’t think I did great on McK, but they expect that given it’s difficulty.

McKinsey cases are interviewer led. Interviewee is expected to create a framework, then brainstorm / solve the case following guidance from interviewer. This is different from traditional casing (which pretty much every other firm does), where the interviewee leads (“I think we should look at the market size first”).
Generally McKinsey cases are much harder, in terms of quant, exhibits, etc. Got offers at M and Bain. bain’s cases were a walk in the park, comparatively.

I found Mck and Bain cases to be really similar actually - no difference in difficulty (although some of that I suppose aligns with where you would fit in best).
The hardest cases of all for me were OW. Brutal quant!
