What are the typical working hours for MBB? I’m doing just under 40h/week in a non-MBB firm. Still manage to keep clients happy and do internal work

@OP Is it worth it for the extra $10K as an Analyst? No. Is it worth it for the long term comp, career, and exit opportunities? Yes.

like

At least at BCG, we include travel time in our hours because you are almost always expected to be working during travel. I would say minimum when staffed is around ~55 per week, and median closer to 65-70

like

I think that’s kind of a trick question, because the projects that are lower in hours (~55) usually don’t involve travel. If you’re traveling I think there’s an assumption you work until at least 10pm on average, which comes out to ~65 hours

You don’t get to earn $300k as an MBB Engagement Manager by putting in 40 hours on your timesheet unfortunately

like

Been struggling with 70-80 hours a week for the past year, intense projects back to back.
Clients are usually c-suite with major initiatives so expectations from leadership and clients are super high and no room for error.
Definitely not a sustainable model, usually folks pace high burn projects with more manageable ones in between to keep it under control.

like

Average 60-65, the odd week down around 50-55 if I’m lucky, intense projects 70-80. Have more intense weeks than lucky ones unfortunately

like

MK1: does it apply to the implementation folks too? Is it different?

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours? What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

Please suggest in terms of learning, job security and work life balance which organisation to go for in the current time from the below offers...

Why do leaders keep comparing how “good”the new staff/seniors have it because they make more money starting out then they did and working 55 hours is better than the 70-80 hours they used to work? Instead they should compare what options they have available to them and what their goals are.

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.
