For fires you can use materials that are ignition resistant. For security against intruders you can fence your yard, install security cameras, installation of motion lights and buy a dog. It really makes a difference having dogs in the house for security reasons. Also, don't put boulders around your windows because it will give intruders a step tool.
Don't buy a house in an area where you feel you need to harden it.
Otherwise, just don't go out of your way to attract theft. Beyond that, not much you can do to make an actual difference. It's more psychological than anything else.

Tell me you’re a POG without telling me you’re a POG.
I have a security system, cameras both inside and out and a variety of tools placed in various places and everyone in the house knows how to use the tools effectively (no kids in the house anymore and when we have guests with little ones some of the tools move to the safe). I have HOA compliant signs noting the security system and video, something very common where I live.
I also have extensive low voltage outdoor lighting and no entrance point where someone could spend time in the dark attempting to gain access. I also keep our car key fobs in a Faraday box (cars are all garaged but still).
Beyond that, I know my immediate neighbors well and also have some understanding of their capabilities. We look out for each other.
I'm former USN so probably lacking some knowledge but I did do LEO and armed boardings at one point and also spent some time in some not so nice places, so I tend to hope for the best and plan for the worst.
Don't know now "hardened" our house is but I hope we never have to find out.
As an aside. Highly recommend reading Left of Bang by Patrick Van Horn and Jason Riley. Not about hardening a home per se but rather the proper state of mind for the world we live in.
Buy a house in a good neighborhood.
hire Kevin McAllister for all your b&e prevention
What does this mean?
Hahahahhaa
This thread is everything I hoped it’d be
Yes!!! 😆
The secret trick to hardening your home they won’t tell you about - Slather the entire exterior of the home in concrete.
Don’t let these naysayers here make fun of you.
I suggest mixing a few 5 gallon buckets per day and going from there. There are plenty of YouTube videos on it. Your house will be the hardest in the neighborhood in no time.

There’s basically nothing you can do to actually harden your home enough to prevent forced entry by a team of determined assailants, so I would strongly suggest you change the way you talk and think about this.
You’re not trying to “harden” your home. Your home will never be a hard target. All you need to do is make it annoying to break into. The right suggestions have already been given — good doors, deadbolts, bars or laminated glass (or both) on any windows that are accessible without a ladder. Beyond that, you’re relying on your own and the cops’ response time.

You forgot “Home Alone”
Mini gun in the garage like Ben Affleck from The Accountant.
If you’re in an area where power outages are a thing get a generator. Ring camera on your driveway and door.

Memes aside..
- 3 inch screws for door strike plates
- window locks (mostly a standard feature, but will block it from being opened)
- dowell rod in sliding glass doors
- cameras & general home security system stuff
- I cannot stress this enough, laminated glass. Will see if I can find the article but laminated glass was the number one deterrent of a break in.
- have some sort of defense mechanism (probably a gun) but whatever you’re comfortable with
- backup generator (pricey for sure), but definitely worth the investment.
Can probably come up with some others, but you can also program an Alexa (or whatever smart device) to sync with your house’s lights and whatnot.. and if someone breaks in you can have it flip the lights green and blast smash mouth while you come around the corner butt naked with a tomahawk and NVGs.

The only way to make a sliding glass door safe is to not have one. Even laminated glass on a sliding glass door is pretty weak.
Pistol in every room that everyone in the house has been trained on
Please make sure that Steven is not a bird. Because nobody wants to be trained by a bird named Steven. Not me, for sure.
DoJ found that an incredible 65% of home invasion victims knew the offender beforehand, and 34% were relatives or well-known acquaintances! Start with who you know
.50 cals at each window behind sandbags. A moat w alligators and crocodiles.....piranhas w mounted lasers are a nice touch. On station air, ready to drop steel at the drop of a hat....if you can't afford 24/7 on station air support, reevaluate your life choices.
😆
In addition to the other recommendations, good lighting in the front and back yard (motion sensors are a big plus), and clear line of sight to the house from the street. Make sure locks on doors and windows work. Really doesn't need to be anything sexy to deter people from breaking in.. just be a slightly harder target than your neighbors and you won't be worth the effort.
Yeah we don’t even lock our doors except at night. We’re lucky to live on a safe city block. I should get a generator tho.
Make sure to install cctv cameras. It is an extra added security for your home. Hope this helps.
A big dog.
You're welcome
