Faced this weird behaviour from Optum recently. Gave interview for Data Scientist position. HR said feedback is positive. Asked for documents. It's been month now since I have shared the documents. I have no update on the offer. Today I called HR, she called me back saying the position is on hold due to recalibration in team, She has shared interview feedbacks to other teams and will get back to me in couple of days. I am clueless now. My last working day is approaching (In a month). Any Help??
I have been working in the construction industry for 2 years under a general contractor. I am wanting to get into consulting and my ideal role would be something like an Associate in Major Projects Advisory with KPMG. I’m curious to know which firms/companies have positions and departments like the one mentioned that I could apply for?

You leave as soon as you can
I’m stupid and I didn’t leave immediately
Been on the side that stayed. Very easy to fall into a sense of actually liking the people you work with, and seeing opportunity. If it feels wrong, it’s probably wrong
Same here. Stuck it out for a year thinking it was me. Still recovering 5 years later.
The sooner you're interviewing the more you'll be associated with your precious gig and the less the new place will matter, so start looking now.
Previous not precious 🤦♂️
Get the f*ck out and get back on track even if it means moving.
First of all, this is a weird business. You’ll see people who you feel are less talented succeed and get promoted.
I went to ad school. Got a job at a decent agency to start. Didn’t get along with the CD and made a few jr mistakes and got let go. Got a job at one more general place, got let go and then landed a job in DM. Decent work for a year with a good client and then it went bad. Jumped around a few other agencies and landed at a hardcore DM shop. Decided I didn’t like advertising. Tried the entrepreneur thing. Spent a lot of money, did some cool things but didn’t break out. I was at the DM agency for NINE years. Mind you, in this time some of the people I went to ad school with are ECD’s and CCO’s of big name shops. Finally got an ACD gig at a place that was even worse than the DM shop, but I needed out so I took it. FFWD three years and that agency lost the two accounts I was working on and I was let go. I was out of work (except for some freelance) for 5 months. Burned through cash even with unemployment. Completely panicked. Worked on my book even though I thought I was out of the game and would need to find a new career.
Right when I was about to give up, I somehow managed to land on my feet at a cool content agency doing the best work I’ve done in 10 years. Probably because of my experience, they made me the creative lead on the account I was working on because of a very difficult client.
So A) never let your portfolio go like I did. You always have to be prepared. B) Never give up. Keep doing good work, find hungry people to work with. As an AD I think that’s easier than a writer since writers are reliant on AD’s to make our words look good.
I mean, if I can get my career back on track after 10 years of doing blah work than anyone can. You just need that inner flame that wants to do good work
Stay for the 90 day probationary period then set up a meeting or they will and tell them it’s not a good fit
I don’t understand how this keeps happening to people. So thoughtless and selfish of a company to not have a thorough and honest interview process.
I have a section in every interview where I “try to convince you why you shouldn’t work here.” (My bosses hate it). Every shop has its good and bad points. The more honest we are the better positioned people are to find a good fit
Although I will say, people don’t always hear me because they soooo want to get the new job (and pay) that they’re not always looking for the signs of what a place is really like. Even when I blatantly say shit like, “the hours here are kinda long, and the process is a bit loose...”
Not saying this was your experience tho...
Agree, I prefer to be honest. I don’t want to dupe someone only to have them hate it when they start.
Working that out right now. Here’s how I think I feel: we all hear “fail harder” and talk abstractly about how we should take more risks as creatives. If your job didn’t work out, well, at least you put yourself out there and took a risk. You learn way more from slogging through that tough shit as you do at a job where everything works out. As you move forward, don’t hold it against yourself that you made a mistake. Learn from it, and take that lesson with you :)
Thanks this makes me smile
Do we work at the same place?
I think I used to have your job. It sucked. Depressed the hell out of me. Best of luck in your job search. Start now
Yup get out ASAP. Most everyone has had that happen to them.
Yep. They selfishly needed my role filled and I was pretty mislead by the actual work the clients are letting them do. I knew it sounded too good to be true, and thought I’d take a risk cos I was early enough in my career. Not to mention the culture, that’s got to be the worst of it.
I’m in the same exact boat but having trouble landing a new gig. So while I continue to search I’ve started a side hustle to add to my resume. Good luck and I hope everyone who’s going through this finds something new soon.
Yep. It’s okay for things not to be the right fit. Leave immediately if you can afford it if they are breaking the law and putting you in legal risk. Document as much as you can.
@DOO1 agree. That was pretty lame.
Sometimes it feels like every choice in my career was a derailment, but then something better comes along and I fall for it all over again.
I just moved my family for a job and while still in Corp housing they laid off the majority of the Sr leadership team (including me) and all CDs. Totally fucked up situation. All these promises and then, 💥
Why are people liking this 😣 actually so stressed rn
because unfortunately there's no 'sad react' like on Facebook 😣
I’ve been in it for months, trapped due to a contractual thing. The end is nigh
Be out! Bye Felicia!
Thanks all🙏. My visa was transferred here so that’s a bonus. Instead of collapsing into despair going to figure out how to leave.
I got a new gig at Energy BBDO once and gave my two week’s notice after being there only one week. The creative director I was working with was the most egotistical dick I have ever come across, and his ideas were so dull. When HR asked why I was leaving, I said I couldn’t work with that guy. They understood immediately and didn’t even try to keep me. It happens. I say find your next thing ASAP. Quit now if you are able to afford it, so you can focus 100% on finding the right gig.
