Our nanny does light cleaning like wiping down tables and running the robot vacuum. She also does kids’ laundry and towels. We have a cleaner come every other week for deep cleaning like bathrooms, kitchen, mopping. She launders the bath mats. Nanny used to cook during kid’s nap but now with two she doesn’t have time so I end up batch cooking for 1.5-2 hours during Saturday naps. I hope to claim this time back and also outsource my laundry so may look for a third person or see if my cleaner can do it.
We hired a nanny through an agency and when we described what we wanted (child care, laundry, light cleaning, simple home cooked dinners), they said to list it as a “house manager” position and offer $30/hr. We did and it’s been an awesome setup for the last 1.5 years. The meals aren’t gourmet but they’re fresh and healthy and good enough.
I like this thanks! What agency?
Hi! We are in the same boat. Do either of you work from home? Here’s what we do and found helpful…
1) on weekends- we list out all meals for the week and make sure we have the groceries. (10 mins)
2) we do a ton of crockpot recipes, sheet pan, and Trader Joe’s (so easy and quick)
3) husband wakes up 15 mins before kids to prep dinner.
4) whoever works from home, turns on crockpot, or turns oven on and throws it in, etc
5) Uber eats, grub hub are done for any crazy night (1 night a week)
We grew up with high level executives parents and never had a home cooked meal/ went out to dinner a lot and swore we wouldn’t do that to our kids.
Depending where you live and what your budget is, most decent sized cities have people who offer private meal delivery services and will bring you meals for the week that are freshly made, locally, and don’t involve all the superfluous packaging of mailed meal delivery. I haven’t done it because we don’t have that kind of budget, but I do know it’s out there.
