partaking in activities where networking is more of a consequence than the intent has worked for me.

an unlikely place where I have met several people is an indoor playground.

I've met some people at industry events, and we've stayed in touch, so I guess that was successful networking. I've never been to a specific networking event, and I could see that as being fairly awkward. But meeting people at conventions or conferences seems to be the way to do it, at least in my experience.

I try to do it naturally and not force it
