Like.... 1 mil total comp. But that's outside of consulting and true data scientists, not the fake data scientists we have in consulting.

These huge numbers are like the top 5% who probably have PHDs and can write their own MlL algorithms - not your every day data jockey who knows a few languages and can use stock packages

It's worse than that. These huge numbers are the absolute top of their field, and is not a reachable level without a lucky stroke of genius that explodes into its own subfield of academia. Typical "real" data scientists who can write their own algorithms, in tech and in the bay area where pay is huge, will make around 160k (including stock) fresh with a PhD and top publications, going up to maybe around 400k end career (including stock). Netflix is notable because they match the competition but pay it all in salary instead of half in restricted stock units or options. Finance quants can go much higher, but those numbers aren't as publicized and churn is high.

And like. Legit quants at certain shops can absolutely rake it in.

Just to be clear. Celing typically means "the most" while average is welll..... average. What do you want?

Average salary and average corporate data scientist are two very different things.

Tech will be definitely highest then consulting then corporate. The difference is you can move from tech to the other two but not the other way around after a few years.

We should ask a data scientist to work this out for us...

Ironically data science may be unable to answer this question, as all the technique in the world may be stymied by lack of access to good data representing the part of the distribution you care about, and/or lack of clarity in the definition of the measures.

Whats the salary ceiling for the average corporate data scientist in consulting, tech, and industry?

Dude your questions make NO SENSE. The "average ceiling?" Wtf man. Not trying to be harsh but think about what you want.

On a PL+1 with a C who has a speed to output AFD. Trying to make sure he has the best possible learning experience but I’m drowning. No case budget for STS or additional resource, and high priority client so no room to reduce scope. MDP says we’re not doing enough. Don’t know what to do besides work 20 hour days myself. Any wise OPPL have advice?

Been here around 5 years & not looking to leave. Given better salary elsewhere within a reasonable range, I'd still stay here. I stay for more than salary. So asking others: why do you stay besides $?
