Hello all, just joined. I use a lot of ed tech in my classroom and would love to connect and exchange ideas with others.

Students willingly volunteer that they do not read and most parents see it as a non-issue. I tell my students that the best readers are usually the best writers. What are some strategies that you use beyond reading logs ?

I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences.

I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Before we move home to our own country, we’d love to spend a year close to Vancouver where rent is cheaper, temptation is less, to save. Ever sit down to grade essays you know will be terrible so you put off grading and then you have to force yourself to read them?

How do you best support your students who do not speak English? I have four ELL’s in my 6th grade ELA class and they don’t receive push-in or pull-out Bilingual support during my class. Do you pull them for small group to provide instruction separately or do you just try to use google translate to translate your lessons and the work? Any best practices? I’d love some help.

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his.
