Will be curious to hear other's answers. I have some super thick leather gloves for pruning our monster bougainvillea and I leaned the hard way that was not enough. Can only imagine how easy a cactus thorn would go through.
Wondering if the right answer is like needle-proof gloves they sell to law enforcement lol
NGL going to look those up
I use a plastic cup, like quart sized takeout container, or sometimes a small mason jar. I don't like cacti for this reason, but the cup over the top is my method. I use a takeout chopstick to poke around the soil and loosen it up a bit. Turn the plant upside down with the cup around it to remove the plant, then kind of hold it sideways in the cup to trim or rake out the roots a bit. Then prep the new pot with fresh soil, still using the cup to hold it and position the plant, fill in the rest of the soil and remove the cup. Works ok.
LOL
