Creating a shell “taxi” company that he billed his cab rides to, while sharing a ride home from airport with a colleague who would use their corporate card for the ride
Deloitte had to change their expense policy after my fraternity brother spent a fortune on a client dinner including several bottles each of Dom and Cristal. He topped off the dinner with Louis XIII and kept the bottle. He quit before they could fire him.
I've heard of someone blowing 30K on strippers
Ransom.
Issue was it was Mexico City. He got kidnapped because he was in a shady part of town doing shady stuff. To be fair we paid it and warned him not to do it again. Only had to fire him him when the exact same thing happened again
Goddamn. How many cab rides would make someone even think that was remotely worth it?
E2, how is that a violation? They kept to the 250 weekly limit and spent it on food/drinks.
In the 90s at Booz
Someone on the east coast had a west coast client that entitled them to fly back and forth business class weekly. They would purchase and expense a business class ticket. At the airport, they would exchange the one business class ticket for two economy tickets and fly economy on one ticket and keep the second economy ticket for their own later personal use.
This went on for months until the partner who had been approving the expenses boarded the same flight and saw them go sit back in economy. They were gone soon after
Let me see
1. I have definitely seen people expenses suits for last second meetings
2. 30k on strippers in chicago
3. Somebody charged in a deck for their house
4. Damage to a hotel (they threw a chair through the window of a hotel that was on the 30th floor
Why did they through the chair haha
Strippers in Chicago aren’t worth $1k much less $30k
MCK - it’s called fraud, not “expense policy violation” ! And it is never worth it.
A coworker expensed a helicopter from manhattan to jersey bc his flight got delayed and he was in a wedding the next day (not his wedding, obviously). father of the bride was highly, highly impressed
As a native New Yorker, I’m convinced there are a number of equally fast options (cab, train), especially since the wedding wasn’t until the next day
My boss told me he fired someone at his last company for expensing nunchucks. Yes, nunchucks
To be technically correct (the best kind), fraud is a violation of most expense policies
So back in the day, I along with 400 more of me was on a project at a large client going through highly visible challenges. It was tough and hours were brutal and we stayed many weekends and every night was a late night. Best and worst time of my career.
After about a month, mandatory expense calls were instituted every Monday afternoon. The guy that ran these had this zero emotion voice - a mix of Charlie Brown’s teacher (wah wah wah wah) and a tired 3rd deployment in the Middle East vet, “there ain’t nothing that can surprise me no more.” And every call would start with, “Good afternoon. I will now list examples of expenses that will not be approved...”
Basically all the above were mentioned at one point but these and commentary were my favorites.
- presidential suite at the ritz will not reimbursed unless you can cram 10 people in there, which I would not recommend as HR may have an issue with that.
- several cases of vodka was attempted to be run through again. I appreciated that you bought those at a discount store - thank you for being fiscally responsible. However, unless you’re claiming this as your dinner, we will not reimburse it.
- replacement of dead potted plans will not be reimbursed. Yes I understand you couldn’t water them because you were here. I am very sorry you have outlived your cacti; no one should go through that.
Zero emotion. It has been a decade and it makes me chuckle every time I run into someone from that project. Never did find out who that guy was.
A coworker got fired for saving up his per diem every week then going to the club Thursday night and blowing $250 on bottle service
We had someone that was booking and expensing flights for refundable fairs, and then refunding himself without refunding the company. That asshat is why we can’t use our own cards for expenses.
EY2, spending your let diem on bottle service? Can’t you spend your per diem how you like?
P1 takes the cake. Ransom wins regardless of amount . AND it was repeated ransom!
Am I the only one wishing there was a WOW or OMG emoji to respond to these stories... like...helpful...smart... haha ... uplifting just dont do these justice! @Fishbowl please add another emoji x
I heard someone charging fake hotel charges and room service while staying at his parents house and world rack up an xtra 5k per month
