Got my first pay check! Trying to understand all the taxes on it….Are state taxes on my gross amount or do the federal taxes i pay get deducted first then state taxes on that amount?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

I have a total taxable income of 1978050 for. Which I need to pay 330915 as a tax as per new regime.
I don't have any investment and also as working from home living in my home town so no rented house.

I’m in Dallas and have been renting for 5 years. I don’t have any savings, but have about 30k in my 401k. Im thinking about leveraging that to buy a condo/or house. Is that a good idea or am I in over my head? I mostly want to, because I’m tired of renting and I’ve read reports that prices will only continue to go up. Although, I will have to pay back the 401k + pay rent, so maybe not a good idea. Advice/resources would be helpful.

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.
