If that’s all you need to do to get it, then yes worth it.
Not a ton of benefits tbh, but you’ll get some small bonus on mileage multiplier, and you’ll be a level above those who don’t have any status for standby if you ever need it. It may never get you upgraded, but it did happen once when I was gold. It’s always better to have some status w an airline than none at all.
I fly once a month NYC to DC and back and always get at least a free upgrade to the comfort seats with more leg room and board in the first group. I occasionally have gotten bumped up to first class. It seems worth it to me even with a flight that short
The hilarious thing about AA status is how inflated the levels are. BA Gold is Emerald, while AA Gold is a Ruby peon. BA didn't even bother recognizing Ruby tier until they launched Avios.
