I’ve had my eye on a “Delivery Transformation Change and Communications Consultant” position at Deloitte. Does anyone work here that could give some insight into this position/department or one like it? And is there anyone who has worked in marketing and shifted to communications/consulting…what are your thoughts on a career shift?

They will get paid more than you....for one year. That person will get significantly lower raises each year until they are in line with where they would be based on their experience. Leaving for another firm that does the same thing is very short sighted and won’t usually make a difference in the long term unless there are atypical circumstances
This is going to sound douchey, but you should try to just focus on yourself. The more you compare yourself to other people and their situations, the more reasons you’ll find to be unhappy. Trying to determine whether you should negotiate your salary based on your perception that an external hire may or may not be getting paid more than you is a waste of energy, in my opinion.
It is a common problem/issue when new experienced people are hired. Asking for a raise would not help you at all and no one received a raise just because the new person tarting makes more than you. If you are high performer, you should be making more than average. As someone above mentioned, the new comets wage would adjust within year or two with other colleagues of same level and caliber
Wondering if I should ask for a raise, although I assume it won’t happen unless I too get another offer from somewhere else, even though the firm knows I could probably get my current plus 10% if I leave. I’m a high performer—a 1 every year, and bitter thinking that my loyalty means I’m losing out.
I’m not trying to leave. I’m just trying to determine if I can ask for a raise without having another offer in hand. I agree with everything you say and don’t want to personally start over somewhere else, but I know my relative value and want to make sure I’m not not missing a legitimate opportunity to negotiate if that makes any sense.
Also never ask for a raise without another offer in hand. Unless ur the top performer they have no basis to give u more as their pay scaling is already set
What PwC 1, KPMG 1, and EY 1 said. (Where’s Deloitte 1?)
We are replaceable. They will literally tell you that if you want the 20% raise you can leave and go get it. Bye, good luck, and let us know if you want us to do work for you when you are VP tax. But that you’ll want to stay because of the “people”. That has been told to me at every compensation discussion I’ve had with partners before I can even ask for raise or express that my raise was not as expected.
