Ever bombed an interview so badly that you agreed at the end of the call you aren't a good fit?

I had so many interviews in b school I forgot which one I was in, didn’t know the company name or what role I was interviewing for. We agreed in the middle of the interview it wasn’t going to work out so we ended like 10 mins in.

likefunnyuplifting

Did you ever figure out which company it was?

I had learned from my career advisor in college that people like to hear their own name, so you should try to incorporate it into the answers as much as possible.

So throughout the interview, all 45 minutes of it, I said things like “Well, that’s a great question, Evan” and “Well, Evan, I would have to say my favorite class this semester was Macroeconomics” and “Hmm, you make a great point, Evan.”

As we finish up the interview, he shakes my hand and goes, “By the way, my name is actually Kevin.”

Group panel interview with execs, 3 executives with 6 college senior candidates. At the end you had to choose a fellow candidate and say why you wouldn’t hire them. I chose myself

likefunnyuplifting

That's a toxic scenario to ask from a college hire

my first ever screening interview as a college student trying to get my first internship as a business analyst - 5 minutes in, they asked “what are the most important qualities of a business analyst?” and I said something along the lines of “analyzing business” 💀💀

I walked out of an interview with Intel many years ago as the hiring manager was an ass. It’s better to know during the interview process that you’re not going to be a fit rather than after joining the company.

My first consulting interview I walked in without knowing what a case was at all.

I’m a marketer and was interviewing for a growth consulting role. They provided me an accounting and operations efficiency case study. Was completely out of my depth.

My first set of interviews ever. Every time they asked me to tell them about myself, I would tell them my name, where I’m from, how many siblings I have, where I live and lots of stupid stuff that just made people think I was stupid. I just graduated and knew nothing about the real world and how to interview.

SC4- it’s a normal opening interview question. Typically meant to give a summary of your career, goals and why you’re there. Not sure if it’s /s hence responding :-)

i asked to withdraw my candidacy mid interview bc the girl interviewing me was asking such stupid questions (why dont you have any high school activities listed, whats a major gpa) during my interview. i didnt want the position because of its location and only took the interview for practice. this was in college for a full time post grad role

like

yea the interviewer was this girl only 2 years older than me. perhaps she had never conducted an interview before? either way it felt like a stupid question. i had substantial work experience from the summers and the school year in college. why the hell would i add high school honor society on there lol

2YOE at the time with only B4 business process consulting experience and miraculously landed a PE investment team interview with a fairly well known mid market fund. Got it from shotgunning random applications via LinkedIn. I think the recruiter made a mistake. Interview with the hiring manager lasted 10 mins and they said "thanks we'll call you back" and that was the last I heard from them 🙈

Recruiter had two open positions, one for laundry and one for mobile. I had ten years of experience with spike in mobile apps and ecosystems.

Hopped on the call and HM asked me how I liked their laundry machines.

A shame that the smart laundry machine didn’t catch on, all the hype went towards the smart fridge. You coulda been the game changer.

I bombed a consulting case study (didnt know I was being put in Tech) and bombed it, the head of Blockchain practice asks me "do you really think you want to explain your rational why blockchain would help client a?

Yes definitely. Phone interview I took in my college dorm. Told the guy what aspects of the job I was interested in and the two interviewers walked back the job description and said I probably should end the interview process now.

Had a consultancy that I was interested in and waiting for a project to become available. Was with Starbucks leading their customer loyalty program basically replacing a director who was about to go on leave for 4-6months. M

Sounds great but I’m a B2B tech marketer with zero consumer or loyalty marketing experience. Got 10min into the call with the consultants and asked “Look, I’m all into getting into a project and doing what needs to be done, but given my background and skills we just talked about, I don’t think I’m the person for this project”. They agreed and we wrapped up the called respectfully giving everyone 15min back in their day.

One week later the client asked to interview me - WTF!

Hey guys! I’m looking to shift careers. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 7 years now. Before that I’ve worked in an office, retail, banking, sales and was a correctional officer. I have a BA in criminal justice that I have yet to use. I really want an office job that pays well, but I’ve had no luck finding someone to hire me, actually even getting an interview most likely due to lack of experience. I’m open to options or if anyone knows a company that’s hiring that would be great!

Hello All,

I bought CER006 on Nov 21 with my current company email id and completed one certification. I am leaving my current organization and I still have 9+ months time left for CER006. My company says the s user id provided by them will get de-activated once I leave (in a week). I have not claimed the amount also. Is there any way I can transfer the certification to my personal email I'd so that I can write other exams in time left?

If anyone has any intro email templates they don’t mind sharing I would greatly appreciate it.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
