Hi all.
Has anyone in IBM been on bench for more than 4 months here?
I have been on bench for almost 4 months now & have been getting automated mails asking me to get assigned to a project by searching one by myself, else necessary action might be taken.
And are there any chances of being straightaway fired based on these automated mails?
I would genuinely need an advise from someone who is aware of this kind of situation.
Thanks in advance
Someone should get fired for this

I know someone who has been laid off or pushed out five times in her career. She started at a firm, got laid off after a year for poor performance, then started at a different firm. She actually survived for five years there but then got pushed out and went in house. She was laid off from her in house job for performance then found a new role for a few years, then came into a firm as NEP. She lasted six months then got told to leave, and moved to a different firm as NEP. Finally, she got laid off from that firm after about two years and has now been in house for a few years.
Lovely person but unbelievably scatterbrained and messy. I worked with her on a file and she sent internal documents to the opposing party three times within a two week span, and then failed to flag a major issue from diligence to the client that resulted in a material loss. Still, the fact she’s managed to have a career for 15ish years is something I remind myself when I feel bad about making a small mistake!
Thanks for sharing lol

I was laid off twice in BigLaw, once because the work that was promised never materialized (dried up) and once because the sole female partner I worked with didn’t like me and stole the book of business I had brought in and then had me fired on “performance issues”. I have been at my current firm for over 2.5 years with glowing reviews…
Time to steal your book back.
I know a ton that got bad reviews and they found a new job during website time
That’s not a lay off, it’s being told you’re going to be fired if you don’t quit. Lay off means your job is being eliminated.
A friend of mine got laid off twice from Meta (once in 2022 and another a couple months ago). In between he got a job and was laid off from CarGurus. Unfortunately, he was a bit of a job hopper, so his resume has around 6 two-year stints. I'm not sure what he's gonna do.
Three in big law, but he’s flourishing now. Two year stints each. Charismatic as hell, of course, but sometimes all it takes is the right fit.
2020 told it wasn’t working/covid economics. 2024 laid off due to a RIF at my in house role.
I know someone who's been moving up firms - started as a solo, went to a small firm, then mid, then low BigLaw, now at true BigLaw.
AFAIK, never fired, but....not well-liked either. I'd guess they would have been fired, but they stuck around long enough to convince another firm to hire them in an upward trajectory before their then-current firm pulled the trigger on the termination. You'd think at some point it would catch up with them, but apparently not.
Are they a good lawyer? Meh. I never worked with them, but I chaired a bar committee and they constantly said how they wanted to lead the committee (there's a ladder you get on), but despite opportunities to take the lead on programs, etc. they always bailed.
