“Set alarms on your phone for reminders”. My phone is ALWAYS on silent.

Lmao even if not on silent, I turn the alarm off and if I don’t do the thing right away I will forget my alarm went off for it 😓

"You just need the discipline to focus..."

Wow, thanks for that amazing insight! I never thought about it that way. (heavy sarcasm)

like

Ooooh this one burns me up the most. People don’t realize the discipline it takes to just do the most ordinary of tasks for us. We have to use the most amount of energy trying to do all the things we can’t get ourselves to start. The burnout from it is real!

"Just don't be distracted." From my therapist.

🚩 As I have gotten older, my health has forced me to get understand that ADHD is a type of dysautonomia - I have other types of dysautonomia - and as I have gotten treatment for those, its helped my body process dopamine better, (not well, just better)
making me fully aware that this is a real physical impairment with how my body processes dopamine and serotonin.

Cognitive therapy, and behavioral modification therapies will help

but a medical protocol, whether that is a prescription, dietary changes, metabolic supports, supplements and/or exercise - the things that support the brain are what really help here.

I once had a therapist tell me to do less, 🙄I can't feed my children less, I can't pay my bills less, no matter how much I try - it made me feel like this was some thing I needed to surmount through my will.

I did not understand the reason medication helped, was because I had a medical condition; AND it blinded me to other very serious health problems that have had catastrophic impact.

I would like to save anyone else from those mental gymnastics because it literally cost me 20 years

like

My personal favorite of all time is (not): “You’re just lazy, you need to try harder. ADHD is just an excuse.” 😳😡 I wouldn’t wish the ADHD brain on my worst enemy, but I would wish it for just one day on the jerk (family member) who said that to my face.

like

Yes, my husband has had this his whole life too. He has adhd and his clutter is confused with laziness.

or "dopamine fasts"

like

You need to just set your mind to it. Lol! Hated that one the worst!

like

"Just put on noise-cancelling headphones." I'm here to tell you that there are variants of us where the noise is not the problem.....

like

“You just need to be better at time management”

"If you dont know how to spell a world look it up in a dictionary. "

My boss (exec director) and I need to come up with a schedule strategy. We work in a hybrid setting, 1-2 days in office, the rest remote. As you all know, the days fill up quickly with travel, meetings and requests internal, external, new partners etc. Fridays are usually off limits to schedule anything unless it’s super important or really no way to work around it. have you seen something, created or implemented a strategy/guideline that would free up more time? I know saying no more would help

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours? What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

What types of work accommodations can help people with ADHD? I am starting to believe 35+ of having not managed my ADHD has really negatively impacted me in career growth etc. I'm realizing a lot of things about myself are because of the ADHD. I want better for myself and family but 1. I don't enjoy the same things forever 2. Imposter syndrome and RSD make me believe it's acceptable to start over in new places at low salaries. 3. Typical college won't work for me. 4. I also can't relocate.

I work in sales as a coordinator and do a bunch of paperwork with customers online. I LOVE PEOPLE but dread going to work everyday (wfh 3x a week) because the environment is toxic. Can anyone relate? If I’m stressed out, I can’t focus on my tasks because my productivity is driven by creative and explorative thought. When I’m stressed or anxious, my mind doesn’t have the room or space to think freely to get things done, and I end up bouncing around different tasks not getting anything done. And then there’s the whole dopamine addiction issue with doing a small amount of work then hopping on social media because you feel like you need the reward. Just me?
