What’s this about a “frat culture” at Deloitte and PwC i keep hearing about? I don’t get it. Referring to the WASPy and elite backgrounds of the people we tend to hire? Or something more about gender?

Just googled what WASP is... love how that's considered an appropriate way to label your fellow employees. Not every white person is a protestant or an anglo-saxon.

Deloitte is a frat house/ sorority 100%

Deloitte seems to celebrate team bonding a bit more than some firms. It is collegial in nature and can lead to "team spirit" and pride in Deloitte. I guess that can come off fratty. But there's nothing wrong with having pride in your employer. Coming from Booz, where there's zero pride in your name, it's definitely better on this end of the spectrum, although it's not for everyone.

like

I've described d as fratty and I wasn't referring to demographic diversity, exactly. It's not just white guys who can be fratty. I meant that, like, on my last project the seniors who seemed marked for promotion were socializing outside of work, frequently over alcohol, with team leadership. I wasn't invited and couldn't have attended because I have kids at home. Being older, more introverted, and having kids at home who I expect to spend my evenings with can feel like disadvantages at d in ways I haven't previously experienced.

like

Much of America is fratty.

like

Yeah I have not noticed this....Deloitte is quite diverse. Perhaps I have a skewed perception due to the fact I am in the technology group?

like

Kids is not a reason to avoid taking a keg stand. Now get over here and show us how it’s done!!

I'm not sure what I would have said. I've commiserated with other experienced hire mothers about this and related issues, but it's just true that I don't want to put in the kind of hours that people without kids, or dads with wives who stay home with the kids do, and d has decided to make this part of how they do career management.

My current manager and I have talked although maybe not 100% candidly. I'm happy with my project, my team has really made an effort to incorporate me (and I do the occasional evening event with them) and I will use the skills I'm learning for my next employer. I don't want to start any fights.

I don’t think people mean it that innocently

D3- that is pretty crappy. Have you ever raised that concern with anyone?

Absolutely agree that Deloitte makes it really difficult for people with families to get the same opportunities as people without families. I can’t go to team dinners and happy hours and stuff like that all the time. And i can’t stay until 8pm every night. Doesn’t mean I’m not adding value, it just means this job-social club hybrid model Deloitte unintentionally creates a very un meritocratic way of evaluating people.

D3 answered my question i think

Hey Guys, Currently I am having 16.12 lac pa in current organization and 5% Bonus So total comes around 16.93lac pa. Nagarro is asking me to rejoin at 20 lac pa (5% Project bonus included).
When I left Nagarro around 2 years back my fixed there was 11.50. Shall I consider this offer of Nagarro. Reason I want to change the job is because I don't have code based automation in my current organization and I have been an SDET in my whole experience.

like

I have joined Nagarro almost a year now as a senior architect. However, I see lot of issues here. The company is great so far as employee friendliness is concerned. It may be rated as the top most company in that regard and that is why attrition is well within control. However, there are issues:

1. Project Allocation - allocated to projects without fitment with the role or skills. No internal job portal

2. Lots of seniors in bench for long time

3. No way to give company feedback

Just heard today that my project is going to shutdown in October. I am not sure what is going to happen with me since my manager did not say anything yet. Super stressed not sure what to do?

This is super weird but I feel like I can’t relate easily to people. Hear me out - I moved and lived in different continents, countries every 5 years or so until now… I feel like I’m an outlier and my life is super different from anyone else’s. I have some friends I’ve met at each stage of my life, but it’s been temporary. I feel like I’m always going in a different direction than others. It makes it difficult to have a stable life and close friends..

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
