What's your position on fraternizing with the team? I want to make people feel in high spirits, especially around the holidays, and I'm known as a bit of a santa claus. I bring homemade treats to meetings on occasion in Dec and all sort of little acknowledgements. But I'm wondering if at some point this makes me seem too much like the "cool boss" and that people are actually taking advantage, because performance definitely slows down around this time. But that's normal anyway.

Find the sweet spot. Acknowledge the holiday spirit, but also gently remind everyone about deadlines and project goals. Set clear expectations and ensure work doesn't completely fall by the wayside.

Keep being the cool boss 👍🏻

Oh men i thought i was alone . It’s definitely hard separating the two. I will be in the comments for suggestions

As long as your inclusive to all of your teammates and subordinates than keep it up. It’s great for moral. But if you in anyway are perceived as playing favoritism it can have significant consequences to employee moral and even an HR nightmare related to discrimination. It’s a tough grey area but one that is super rewarding if done right. I love my boss who is just like you and so does everyone on our team.

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?
