Like if you apply at an IPG agency? The talent folks from one agency to the next are not normally communicating if that’s what you’re asking.
@NYT ohhh now I see why youre asking. You want to know if theyll notice you applying for similar jobs at different places at the same holding company and count it against you.
•almost certainly not. We’re not that organized 😃
•even if they did, theyd understand its a similar job
•if they like you they might even get competitive about hiring you
Apply away
No just the one. Almost all recruiters (not that there are very many anymore) only work for their agency. Some might know about other cities (BBDO NY, BBDO SF, BBDO LA for instance), but as far as I know none work at the holding company level unless its for holding company execs.
Its more likely theyd just know each other from talking, or past jobs where they work together, and say “I know ______ is looking too, get in touch with _____ over there.”
NYT...are you working on a story?
Ha ha ha you mean like are there some type of efficiencies in holding companies where the companies they own communicate with each other... no
I know its funny to see someone really smart who works for the Times who probably thinks “its easy to check that stuff,” but it sounds so foreign in advertising to be that organized 🤣
Do you mean when you apply for a specific role or submit for General Application?
Unless you are talking to a chief talent officer the recruiter will likely consider you for the company they are contacting you about. They are working for the hiring brief not for the holding company.
I’ve applied to GroupM agencies and they have sent my resumes to other recruiters within the GroupM family.
Pro
I doubt they’d know. They’re usually focused on hiring for needs in their specific office. Unless it’s someone so high up that they’d be aware of the needs of multiple groups.
Agree with the above. Only once in a while will the head of talent or HR know of an open role in a sister company. I’ve only seen it happen when layoffs occur since the holding company would rather keep talent within their network than out & have them land in competing holding companies. Otherwise it’s each role per agency you apply to.
