I’d be interested to see what dinner is like if that’s what you’re having for lunch...
Right!
huge flex, but did they taste good? all the wines i’ve had from the 70s are totally flat, no fruit, and most are brown with oxidation.
Visual Storyteller
With really old wines it matters hugely how they have “lived”. In this case they had been in the same cellar since youth, hidden from the nazis during ww2 and all that jazz. The ‘24 was still fantastic, plenty of character with fruit and acidity intact. ‘39 a bit flat but not off. ‘79 Petrus was an interesting one, not flat but certainly not as colourful as you’d expect or hope for from a great Pom. Some vintages traditionally seen as poor can surprise you though, a friend shared with me a bottle of Latour ‘70 recently without telling me what it was, an absolute joy.
wow, crazy that the oldest was the best, very cool
Proper lunch
Wowowow
Nice!

Omg. Really curious what how ‘24 and ‘39 Lafite were tasting. Anything I’ve touched more than 25 years old -even the finest Bordeaux - is oxed beyond recognition

Having said that I had a ‘54 Lopez de Heredia that stood up pretty well but the producer has a reputation for long aging.
