It can be really tough to see animals in pain, and sometimes it's hard to talk about it with others. For me, the best way to clear my mind is to take a walk or go for a drive. It's a great way to get some fresh air and clear my head. I also like to listen to music or watch TV when I'm relaxing at home. Anything that can help me forget about work and relax is a bonus.
Honestly, I find relief in my work. Even when it's tough to see an animal in pain, I know that I'm doing something to help make them feel better. That gives me a lot of satisfaction. I also like to spend time with my own animals--they're a big source of comfort for me. Watching them play and run around makes me happy, and it helps me forget about the tough cases I've seen during the day.
I find that spending time with my animals at home helps clear my head. They are always happy to see me, no matter how my day was, and they always make me feel better. I also like to spend time outdoors, going for walks or hikes. Getting some fresh air and exercise always helps to reset my mind and calm me down.
It's a matter of time, I don't want to scare you, but you will begin to see worse and worse things, with time you get used to it, it sounds ugly but it is the reality of our work.
I have to say I have never gotten used to it, but I have become better at healthy self soothing and remembering to focus on the patients I help.
I have been a veterinarian for more than 15 years, and I really think you never get over that, it is something you learn to live with, it is not only not being able to talk about it, it is the face of animals when you know they are suffering, it is something very sad, but it is also a very good thing when you manage to save them and ease their pain.
I feel very alone, we should have a circle of help for veterinarians, that way we can download our experiences with other people who know what we feel firsthand, Who is with me?
A lot of people in the field experience this very thing, so please know you're not alone <3 The best thing you can do is create a support system of other in the same industry who understand what you need after a particularly difficult day.
