My assignment as a school swkr always included a minimum of 4 schools and as as many as six (which lasted for well over a decade). During this time when our department was so incredibly short staffed (which only started to get better last year), I was working at least 3-4 evenings (minimum of 2 hours) and one 8 hr day on the weekend. ALL of my special ed reports were completed at home, all input into our sped system was done from home (me and psych teammate). Considering I’d do 50-60 sped evals a year, and 4-5 MTSS mtgs per week it was definitely fucked up. My husband constantly tried to encourage me to quit, and if I hadn’t become such good friends w my psych teammate I would have left.
When I got down to 2 schools this year, I decided that I was not doing sped reports at home; do I research strategies, behavioral issues, replacement behaviors, etc at home- yes all the time, but it’s not expected so to me it’s not the same.
I guess I learned when to stop too! Good for us!

What in the world?? So puzzling 🤔
I worked at a charter that expected us to do a lot. I'm at a different charter this is more respectful of our time. But part of it was that I had to learn to really use my time wisely. Planning periods are for planning. Occasionally I will bring something home or once a week I will spend a couple hours writing up lesson plans but it's not that bad. Admittedly I would happily do without writing up my week's lesson plans ahead of time. I always have to tweak them anyway based on what we did the day before so it truly feels like a waste of my time.

Yes I’m in the same boat!! Part of determining when to stop was breaking through some type of personal/teacher guilt…. My current mantra is: Self-care first. I am practicing this everyday…. It’ll be my life’s journey 😣
