McKinsey & Company I am an EM at a boutique firm specializing in strategy for B2B tech cos (e.g. Microsoft, aws). I have 4 years consulting exp (3 years pre MBA, 1 year post) with TC of 220K.
I am considering applying for McK as I am currently capped on progression at my firm for a while. Any insight if it would be worth entering the Associate position or at this point I'm too deep into consulting to justify stepping back down

Depends on what exit you want to pursue. But overall consensus seems to be SC or manager. Earlier, and you miss out on the rapid pay increases of consulting. Later, and you may be in too deep specialty-wise or financially vs your YOE.

Not from experience, but I've always been told the best exit opp is when your a manager. Shows you can manage a team, personalites, responsibilities and generally good enough to be promoted within the firm.
If you’re looking at PE exits, mostly second year Analyst is the sweet spot.
