Whenever I ask my manager questions they brush me off like I'm stupid, but a past boss told me always ask questions no matter how dumb you look and that there is something worse than not knowing something, and that is getting it wrong. But how do I communicate this to my manager, because they've started not even replying to me for ages, and it holds up my work? I'm embarrassed and I don't think I'm bad at my job but now I don't even know.

Sounds like you have a bad manager.

If it’s business specific questions do you have peers you can go to? Then circle back with your boss with a better understanding of the issue and some solutions or perspectives.

I think it's different management styles. Some managers are more hands on and others just throw you in the deep end expect you to swim. It's not fair but maybe you should look to someone else who knows the ropes who can help guide you.

like

You would be surprised to know many managers don’t have the knowledge and experience to guide you! They pass blame and the buck in another direction. They also brush you off until you decide to give up asking!

It’s not you it’s poor managers

I’m going to have to agree with the majority here. Always ask questions no matter what. This is how you learn. And if you ask it once it should eventually stick with you and you shouldn’t have to ask it again.

My friend works in-house at a national home-goods chain. Management recently told the entire design team they are barred from having portfolio websites and shouldn’t promote themselves while working for the company. In other words, I could potentially receive quarterly bonuses that add up to around $24,650. However, that bonus isn’t guaranteed according to the offer letter and is contingent on my and my clients performance. Should I take the first job or second job?
