Honestly still really like what I do, just hate not doing it on my terms.
I like numbers and analysis so I like the idea of my job, and I like both getting into the weeds and backing up higher level to find out what’s making things move/tick. However, I absolutely hate the stress, administrative BS and political jockeying that goes along with doing my job, as I’m sure most people do. If I could just focus on the numbers and analysis without worrying about the other stuff (and have actual reasonable timing expectations), I’d enjoy this job a hell of a lot more.
Well you work in risk, which is way worse than accounting. Once I got out I was much happier.
Yep pigeonhole in risk is my fear. I have peers who exited in more finance/accounting roles. Pay is great but fulfillment isn’t there.
Accounting is definitely not my passion. Living in a nice home and traveling is my passion. Accounting pays the bills so I get to live in a nice house and travel.
Some people are passionate about their careers, but often their careers don't pay what mine does. And they are fine with not having the $$$, because they are doing something about which they are passionate.
I’m not a senior manager but I feel this. Initially started my career was fun and exciting but now it’s more to build on my lifestyle.

Accounting is not my true passion. I try to be passionate about serving the people I work with, trying to make their lives easier, and doing my best to meet deadlines and grow my employees.
Accounting may not be my passion but I def like working in front of computers, heavy data mining on excel, in a structured office setting, being on status calls, etc.
I thought I was going to love the job but I absolutely hate it. I’ve come to realize I was not meant to sit in front of a computer all day. I’m trying to get one more year in, save up enough, then call it good and leave for a whole new line of work.
How many people work in a job that’s actually their passion? The idea of having a job that’s your passion is basically a made up concept.
Ehhh that is a terrible mentality. Some people have to have it though. Props to you!
