Autistic/ADHD here, I HATE working in the office. The social aspect everyone claims about missing is exactly what triggers my stress and anxiety... also why do I need to put on uncomfortable and scratchy clothes to go sit in an office where the temperature is inconsistent, there are distracting noises and smells everywhere, people feel the need to invade your personal space all day... just to end up spending 50-75% of my day on video calls anyways?
Same. I dont have a lot of experience working in an office and things that have strong, informal rules that aren't downright explained to me are very intimidating.
Why is communal lunch so much more complicated as an adult??
At one of my previous employers they forced a return to office and more than 20% of the company self-ID’d as neurodivergent. We collectively initiated conversations with management & our DEI lead and secured flexibility around working in-office.
It wasn’t the best company and a lot of us were already planning to jump ship so we didn’t have much to lose by directly confronting them about the issues that return to the office was going to cause for us.
