Worked with two different recruiters and now I have two lateral offers at different firms. I obviously have to turn one down but feel really bad about it. What's the best way to do this? And what should I email all the partners at the firm I'm not joining? They all sent welcome and congratulations emails once I got my offer and I feel bad now that I'm not joining them (especially since this was an unlisted role). I've never lateraled before.

Don’t feel bad. It is normal and expected that you’d be interviewing with and receive offers at multiple firms. Just send a nice email that you really appreciate the offer and enjoyed meeting everyone even though you’ve decided to go elsewhere and hope your paths will cross in the future.

Also, if you wanted, you could potentially leverage the offers to get a signing bonus at one or both of the firms.

I was just poking fun because you left off “offer”

Congratulations. You’re obviously doing something right, to get both of these offers.

I would send gracious emails back to each person who emailed you, like the previous commenter advised (not just ask the recruiter to handle your rejection).

You could also keep those relationships alive in the future in some small way — forwarding articles you write or legal developments they might find interesting. It’s a small world and you may find yourself working with these lawyers down the road.

Probably an unpopular opinion but try to clear conflicts before turning down the other offer.

But the likes of Google, Adobe, etc. also seem appealing. Would you recommend a start up as my next endeavor? I enjoy helping build processes and policies.

Hi all, I’d love to hear from PR/Comms folks about the process of transitioning from agency to an in-house role. What kind of chance does a PR pro with ~7 years of solid experience across CPG and hospitality brands, including a mix of global agency work and smaller boutique firms, have at going in house? Do you typically need more experience before going in house? Would be great to hear about various experiences from those that have made the transition. Thanks!
