Worked with two different recruiters and now I have two lateral offers at different firms. I obviously have to turn one down but feel really bad about it. What's the best way to do this? And what should I email all the partners at the firm I'm not joining? They all sent welcome and congratulations emails once I got my offer and I feel bad now that I'm not joining them (especially since this was an unlisted role). I've never lateraled before.

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

How do you deal with unresponsive summers? I’m a junior and overseeing my first project with summers (5 in total). Two are unresponsive and do not acknowledge my emails. Do I need to make it clear that I expect acknowledgement when I assign work? The other three don’t have a problem with this, so I’m not sure what it is.
