Start paying your bills, that is horrendous. Do you know how credit scores work? You can get that in low 700s in a couple months if you do it right.

No mistakes - laid off from a job and survived on savings and credit for over a year, ppul. Just because you have subpar credit doesn't mean you're subpar with your finances. Life happens (and I don't have a rich daddy to save me).🙃

I have the same credit score and never paid anything late I have medical bills from before the ACA.

How is your score so low? New to credit or past mistakes?

If your utilization is really high, look into a consolidation loan. A large balance on an installment loan looks way better than on credit cards.

You can also decrease your utilization by asking for a limit increase.

For any of you real estate investors, what tools or sources did you learn from when getting started. Can’t find a mentor currently so want to find some highly recommended books or videos. If focused on the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Long Island mainly) that would be even better. My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. Trying to understand all the steps, traps, and how to find if it’s a good investment.

They don’t seem to have a better strategy except “we have a live person managing your investment”. Anyone have experience? Shall I consider it? (I don’t have time /energy to manage it)

What is a simple way to explain to my boyfriend that investing in equity with an expected return of 10% is better than paying off debt that is growing at a rate of 6%. He has student loans and is adamant that he wants to pay all of them off immediately before saving any retirement money. I understand that many individuals use this strategy but I think investing in index funds for the long haul is better from a wealth accumulation perspective, without even factoring in tax implications of 401k
