Would you prefer to be on a super chill project billing 40 but working 20 which won't be very challenging, or take on a more interesting/challenging engagement where you average 55-60 hours?

Remote! Low level of work! More nap time, less burn out, more time to work on other things

like

Definitely the first scenario. It's all about that work life balance.

like

Does a 40hr per wk engagement actually exist?

like

@ATK it's called Federal.

like

Oy, I'm at 55/week, but boring and not challenging :/

like

I'm actually kind of on a low utilization role right now. Got my personal website up, helped host a conference, able to travel during the week. Really ideal. Took a nap at 1pm today, no emails when I got up.

like

Let me add a twist. I'm the first scenario, you're remote 75% of the time, the second is on site every week, traveling.

like

I have a side thing, so I'll take less hours any day

like

Feel like the 40 bill 20 are few and far between

like

Glad to see all the go getters, but I'm with A3

I love those low burn projects. It's like you get to get back in touch with humanity...

The first option - was on a similar project for 4 months.Life was beautiful, food tasted better, exercised everyday, and had a functioning social life.

Agreed. Kid can dream though.

For startup founders/people with a successful side project: How did you get the idea/inspiration for your business? I’m currently working at a Series B startup and my end goal has always been to found my own startup, but I graduated from college 2.5 years ago and I still have not had any great ideas cross my mind. I do spend a fair amount of time brainstorming. I don’t want to continue working here forever, but I’m struggling to generate that “this is it” idea to build a company for. Any advice?

What are your thoughts of consultants and auditors doing client work in a coffee shop, using said coffee shop’s wifi?

When you’ve put in a lot of hard-work as a developer on a great project and received the best performance award but compensation has been same since Day 1…and have completed 2 years in the company. Furthermore no signs of compensation going up…Is it the best time to leave or stay? Additionally too many management changes have taken place that everything feels out of place.

Learning and project and latest niche technology is the other important factor after first 2 factors .

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

How do I get into a project? How long do I have to wait more?

Got a 30% salary bump, via an offer for Senior Consultant S&O from Deloitte. Currently underpaid at EY Advisory. I'm MBA and this year is my promotion year at EY for Manager. What to do? Get demoted and move to D? Or counter at EY? Even if EY matches my salary, and promote me to Manager, I will be an EY Manager with a Deloitte SC salary, and probably won't be able to go to D in the future. What do you think? I have built up a good relationship with my Partner and SMs at EY though.

Quick PSA: one of the perks of going in-house, is that you’re no longer at an ad agency and all that that entails.

Just started a new in-house tech fl gig and it’s giving me whiplash! Somehow this dept has brought every person/toxic behavior from their old agency just to a new environment. Nowhere is perfect but good god. I honestly think companies/HR could learn a lot about their depts from freelancers.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
