People at WPP get promotions?
Wait what’s a promotion?
Lol I got a "promotion" 6 months ago. Title/responsibility was immediate. Still waiting on the pay raise to take effect. 🖤
promotion. yes.
raise to go with it. no.
My boss has been telling me for 2 years that I will get my “title” by the end of the year. I started asking which year. :-/ Still no title change. And yes I am calling it a title change and not a promotion since I’ve been doing the work of the higher position for 2 years
most managers don’t tell you you’re getting a promotion ahead of time. due to budget changes, approvals, etc, it’s all kinda out of their control.
what they should tell you is a general range, once you’ve asked them for a promotion, and they’ve set you on a development path. at that point, they evaluate your progress, then put in for a promotion approval. and at holding companies, that can take about 6 months.
keep in mind, you’ll never get promoted without asking, even if you deserve it. and even then...
Let you know? That’s on you to elevate your career, not the company’s.
Do you have a review process with your manager?
I’ve never heard of that being the case. Manipulative managers may hint at it without any substance behind it if they think you’re leaving? But you find out during your performance review.
Typically you can bring it up with your manager then and discuss goals and timeline to get there
Every company is different, holding co not-withstanding. But I’ve never had a company tell me in advance that I’d get a promotion. Either you do or you don’t. It’s not real until it happens.
About 7 years
4 months
i signed an offer letter with my new title/salary 2 months before it was effective (date was on the letter) but involved moving different offices so that may be unusal
Okay let me rephrase...? If you’ve worked hard and earned a promotion, does your agency typically tell you several months before it takes effect so that you don’t leave?
Yes there is a review process
I was on “the list” for almost two years. Knew about four months out when it was actually happening
We’re basically told to only be considered for a promotion around review time which is July for me
Thanks all for your insights!
