I’m currently a staff accountant but I’d like to make the pivot to a financial analyst/FP&A type role in the future. What are some ways I could frame staff accountant duties on a resume for analyst applications? Obviously my variance analysis and preparation of budget items are good starting points, but does anyone have thoughts on this?

Seems like the “Financial Analyst” role is just a new title for Accountant. I’m on my third interview for a Senior Financial Analyst position but the job description seems to be a mixture of both general accounting activities but also financial statement analysis. Is this a trap? Or is it truly a hybrid finance/accounting role?

Is Senior Accountant to Sr Financial Analyst reasonably possible? I'm having a hard time selling my audit experience to a Finance hiring manager who doesn't have PA experience or their CPA. Dont waste your time doing IB and find some other job where you are valued after 5-7 years of experience. I have close to 9 years of experience in IB and I decided to migrate to Canada after that. Now i am facing a common phenomenon in my job applications. Either they say i am over qualified or they say how will I bring Canadian clients. I tried to change course of my career by applying for financial analyst / FP&A role but of no success. IB doesnt teach beyond PPT / Excel. Feel depressed.
