Non-political poll - how many non-billable hours have you logged so far this year? I’ll start: 143
I’m home with my kids while wife works crazy hours as healthcare provider. Billing what I can, 20-30, but not hustling. Can low billables now really put me at risk after 5+ years of top performance?
What do you consider to be the hardest and most intellectually challenging legal practice? I find insolvency to be the most technically challenging.
Does anyone use Assistants and Paras to edit breifs? I usually do a rough draft of what I want it to say then refer to a para to clean up and make pretty. Am I wrong for this? It just seems so much more efficient.
How do supervising partners deal with this.. I rarely complain to my boss, but a mid-level constantly complains about me. I suspect he BCC’s the boss on overly formal reprimand emails to me.
Any advice about how to approach advocating for more paternity leave than currently offered for new dads?
Yayyy I billed 80 hours sharp in April!!!! They could take mine and another associate’s work, fire one of them, give the work to the other one and profit more. Things are looking grim folks
Is anyone experiencing a reduction of billables due to the partners assigning you less and doing more of the work themselves? If so, what year are you?
I recently passed the bar and need a writing sample to submit to potential employers. I went to law school a few years ago so I don’t think I should use something from law school. I have been working but everything I’ve written at my job was from a template. I think I need to write a new paper to submit but I don’t know where to start. Maybe a PT prompt from the bar exam?
Defendant filed a motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction. I have to now oppose this motion: where do I even begin because tbh defendant has a pretty lock argument
I am so underutilized in my job. I’ve been there for a little over a year now. I’m an attorney with 7+ years’ experience in litigation and most of the time I’m treated like a glorified paralegal. I’ve been volunteering and writing articles to try to stay mentally stimulated. I don’t even feel like a lawyer anymore. It’s really taking a toll on me mentally. I’m actively job hunting, but there isn’t much out there right now.
When should you notify work that you and your wife are expecting a baby? Any safety precautions to be taken to avoid layoffs due to Covid and benchtime because of paternity leave?
I’ve got 30k sitting in a high yield savings. I want to invest with no/low fees. What should I do? ETF? Mutual DJIA? Blue chip stocks? I’m 26 and only have Roth 401k (now 25k) and 30k in Marcus
Alt travelled for so long that my roommate greeted me with a baseball bat when I finally came home this weekend 😵
I've started to look for jobs in tech in SF, targeting bizops/ops. Many times the first conversations veer towards expected compensation. How do you navigate this topic with recruiters/headhunters?
How bad does it look to roll off your first project as an analyst? On here for a few months and doesn't match my career interests at all. SM during the interview told me to give it a try and then lhk
Ryan had his partner call last week. If things don't change in six months, layoffs will begin. It would be much better to ask people to take a pay cut, or a few weeks off without pay. Some people may be willing to take a package as well. Don't expect it will be the sweet package you are offering to partners to retire early.
Any idea what is the difficulty level of interview questions in Fractal? I am in early interview stages with Fractal. And can anybody help me eith the questions. Applied for Power BI role.
Needing a bit of advice. Started in an AAE role at a large agency (although in one of its much smaller offices) about 5 months ago and was recently approached by another agency where I interviewed
Does MBB hire any roles that are 100% remote or are all resources located in one of the cities that have an office? Strong desire to eventually transition to one of these firms but am handcuffed to..
Should I buy a flight ticket for $50 or redeem it for 38k miles? Seems like a lot of miles for the price but I have a ton of miles and won't be using them anytime soon.
Been in consulting for 1.5 years and am looking to leave soonish. I have an on-site interview with a company tomorrow (business casual environment). I should still go suit and tie right?

I accepted a job offer at Wells Fargo with a higher salary and won’t start till August 3rd. However, my target company I wanted to Join (Microsoft) has invited me for an interview, is it ok to accept the request and job offer if they come through and cancel the Wells Fargo job?
Any CD's willing to do a mock video interview with me? I'm trying to find out if there is something I'm doing wrong during interviews that takes me out of consideration for jobs...
