Has anyone submitted grad school applications while working in tech sales? Or have any managers here managed employees who’ve gone through this process? I know in roles like finance and consulting, grad or business school is part of the next step in employees’ careers so employers are supportive. I’m not sure it’s the same for tech roles. Honest opinion—will my desire to go to grad school disincentivize my employer to invest in me?
Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)
I am struggling with the fact that I have 13 years of HR experience in one capacity or another, along with a bachelors degree and my PHR designation yet companies say “I’m not qualified or they ghost me when I apply for HR openings. I am experienced in all aspects of HR. How are people with little to no experience coming right out of college obtaining higher level roles than I have currently? It makes my passion for the field just go away.
Has anyone seen or discussed this Petition for SHRM must support Black Lives Matter & the LGBTQ community? I’ve grown increasingly concerned and disappointed in SHRM’s lack of vocal support for employment protections for LGBTQ+ and black and brown workers, especially as a black woman in HR. It seems like SHRM is overly focused on what is absolutely “legal” and not what is right. I’m of the opinion HR professionals must not only be “legal” but have a relevant and compassionate stance
I have worked in the HR space for the past 9 years, however most of my experience has been in Talent Acquisition. I do want to move into a People Operations/Generalist role. I’m planning to go for a HR certificate but unsure if I should go for a PHR or SHRM. Please advise!

We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?
Need to define diverse talent metrics to create a scorecard. Challenge is that the available data is based on opting in/out of self identification, that data point can change dramatically YOY. Any recommendations on metrics and scorecard?

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

I find myself in a weird place. No STEM degree but have been working in data science for years. I’ve built data science teams/programs. However, I probably wouldn’t hire myself based education, and recently didn’t get an offer after final round with an Amazon research group. I suspect lack of a PhD despite seemingly doing well in interviews. So continue with data science and get a masters or pivot to something else?
