Is reading through Fishbowl billable time?
How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?
Any foreign attorneys feeling lost while working towards their master’s of law in US and working towards getting bar admission? Any tips on how best to draft an email asking for work from a partner who I haven’t worked with and who doesn’t know me? I’d like to get on their matters and want to craft an email that would actually get them to respond and be interested in giving me the work (as opposed to just acknowledging my interest and forgetting about it the next day).

Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)
I’m looking for a screening tool that will assess a candidate’s proficiency with MS-Teams. Would anyone know if there is such a thing that exists?
Any advice for someone looking to transition into a full HR Generalist role from Recruiting. I’m currently a Campus Recruiter with about 5 years of HR experience (Coordinator- Higher Ed). I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
I’m planning to buy the study materials for the SHRM-CP certificate through Amazon. What are the best ones to obtain?
Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
Curious about non-US attorneys: are you working the crazy hour weeks most of us in the US do? Or are your weeks closer to 40 hours? I hear a lot about the working hour caps, vacation requirements, etc in Europe/Canada. Curious if that flows into legal practice... or if it gets ignored. To clarify—I’m talking about BigLaw. I’m sure there are smaller firms with reasonable hours, the same exists in the US.
How many billable hours did you record in March? I had to get an early start on quarantine because a co-worker tested positive for COVID-19. So, I’ll start, 155.
Ultimate goal is to get into PE/VC but I have no prior experience & I don’t think I’ll get it anytime soon. I guess, what’s the value of an MBA if you can’t pivot into this space without prior exp. ?

Has anyone taken one of those online executive courses, like the Harvard Extension School offers? Looking to use my $5k of tuition reimbursement and already have an MBA. Worth it? Best programs?
Since the last post focused more on the source then the content here is a more neutral source. It also highlights the fact the mayor lies in her statements about the diversity of the press corps.
Besides change management, what human capital work is done on a typical M&A project? What do the deliverables look like? Does that work differ on M&A execution vs M&A strategy projects?
Recently dropped down to silver Medallion in Delta. Any chance they’d waive same day confirmed fees for me?
When your bosses always come in late but you get to work on time. So your coworker that comes in late and stays late with them gets the glory and the promotion. 🤔
What are some utilization (billing hours) targets out there for roles with direct reports? If lower than individual contributors, do staffing levels reflect this? I.e. target is 65% billable, but still staffed at 40+ hours
New Hires/College grads who were laid off from IBM GBS in Spring 2018. Where are you today? And how do you feel about IBM now? For context, back then, IBM overhired a significant amount of young professionals and let go a sizable chunk of them. They also almost postponed start dates for the class of 2018 by a year. As a result, IBM has been blacklisted by many universities from OCR.

Any advice is appreciated.
